Thank you Cariboo Chilcotin Coast for hosting your annual AGM and tourism summit in Lillooet this year. It was three days of meaningful conversation and connection with tourism professionals across the region. And it was lovely to spend time in yet another place whose history is so connected to ours in Barkerville. We’re looking forward to next year when you come to see us in the Wells-Barkerville area!

FROM THE ARCHIVE: At the peak of the Gold Rush, before the Cariboo Waggon Road was built, goods had to be transported to Barkerville on foot. Waterproof boots, needed by the miners who spent their shifts down in the wet cold gravel, could cost as hundreds of dollars a pair. They were prepared to pay pricey sums in order to protect their feet from gum boot gout, later known as trench foot.
