What a busy day yesterday! But these are the kinds of days that remind me why I love our community so much!

Four events, lots of great food, plenty of conversations, and even better company!

The day started at Pumpkin Fest 🎃 at Henderson Memorial Park, where families enjoyed games, food, Bradford Farmers' Market vendors, live entertainment, and of course, free pumpkins! It was great seeing so many people out enjoying the festivities.

From there, I headed over to Newton Robinson for Oktoberfest! What a wonderful turnout! An amazing potluck spread, including homemade sausages and sauerkraut, and some great conversations with friends and neighbours in the hamlet. I even got to spend a little time hanging out with a few alpacas! 🦙😂

Heading back into Bradford, I stopped at Green Valley Alliance Church, where the 6th Annual Thanksgiving Meal was prepared and served for migrant workers who leave their families behind to come to Canada and work on our local farms. It was a wonderful gesture of appreciation for the hardworking individuals who contribute so much to our agricultural community. A big thank you to everyone who helped make this special meal possible!

And to finish off the day, I spent the evening at the Portuguese Cultural Centre, helping serve a traditional Pig Roast Feast, followed by a night of music and dancing! What a fantastic way to wrap up an already incredible day!

But the best part of the entire day wasn't the food or the festivities. It was catching up with friends, meeting new people, and having so many great conversations with residents throughout our community.

From Bradford to Newton Robinson and everywhere in between, it's the people who make Bradford West Gwillimbury such a wonderful place to call home.

A huge thank you to all the organizers, volunteers, and community members who put so much time and effort into bringing these events together.

Long day? Absolutely. Would I do it all again? In a heartbeat!

There's something for everyone to enjoy, including pumpkin carving, tractor and wagon rides, face painting, an inflatable maze, mini-golf, live music, local food vendors and even the Bradford Farmers' Market!

This has become such a wonderful fall tradition in our community. It's a chance to get outside, spend time with family and friends, support our local businesses and enjoy everything that makes BWG such a great place to call home.

On Tuesday, I had the honour of attending and presenting awards at the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority's 75th Anniversary Celebration and 2026 Conservation Awards Ceremony.

As Chair of the LSRCA, this was an especially meaningful evening for me. Not only were we celebrating 75 years of protecting and restoring our watershed, but we also had the opportunity to recognize 30 outstanding individuals, organizations and community groups who are making a real difference.

There were so many deserving recipients, but a few stood out to me personally.

- The Scanlon Creek Nature Centre Connect Campaign Leadership Cabinet received a Healthy Community Award. Having spent time working with this dedicated group, it was especially rewarding to see their efforts recognized.

- Kumi Canada was also recognized with a Healthy Community Award for its environmental efforts.

- Debbie Gordon and Sandy Agnew were both presented with the prestigious George R. Richardson Conservation Award of Honour, recognizing their outstanding dedication to conservation and the Lake Simcoe watershed.

- Équipe Francobotique, an incredible team of young environmental innovators, received the Distinguished Achievement Award.

- And a special congratulations to Bradford's very own Aaryav Srivastava, recipient of the Ernie Crossland Young Conservationist Award! Aaryav has been working on innovative technology to help remove microplastics from water.
Inspiring!

Looking around the room that evening, what struck me most was the passion and dedication of everyone being recognized. From longtime conservation champions to young students with incredible ideas, every recipient is helping make our watershed a healthier and better place to live.

75 years is an incredible milestone, but it's the people behind the work who make it truly special.

Congratulations to all 30 award recipients, and thank you to the LSRCA staff, volunteers, partners and everyone who continues to make conservation a priority.

Today I had the pleasure of attending the grand opening of the new Bradford House, operated by LOFT Community Services, at 31 Frederick Street.

I had the opportunity to tour the building and see firsthand the thought and care that went into creating a welcoming, comfortable and accessible place for residents to call home.

The new Bradford House provides 99 affordable housing units for seniors with complex care needs, including 38 fully accessible units. With beautiful common areas, outdoor spaces, a dining facility and around-the-clock support, this is about so much more than just providing housing. It's about giving people the opportunity to live with dignity, independence and a sense of belonging.

As our community continues to grow and age, projects like this are so important. We need to ensure that people have access to housing and the support they need at every stage of life.

A huge congratulations to LOFT Community Services and all the partners, staff and supporters who helped bring this project to life. It's a great example of what can be accomplished when different levels of government and community organizations work together.

And most importantly, congratulations to the residents who now have a beautiful new place to call home!

For 75 years, the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority has played an important role in protecting and restoring the natural environment that makes our region such a special place to live.

As Chair of the LSRCA, I'm incredibly proud of the work this organization has accomplished and, more importantly, the people who have made it possible.

From protecting our forests, wetlands and waterways to educating future generations and working with our communities, the impact of the LSRCA reaches far beyond the shores of Lake Simcoe.

This anniversary is an opportunity to look back at how far we've come, but also to look ahead at the work still to be done.

I encourage you to take a few minutes to watch this video celebrating 75 years of conservation, collaboration and community.

Here's to the next 75 years!
