This , we're getting and proudly celebrating the important work that library workers do every day.

Naomi, Melanie and Maggie make up our amazing technical services team, who you probably recognize from our service desks. As part of the front-line team, they make sure that the Library is a welcoming and inviting place, helping you borrow books, use technology and access other library services.

Behind the scenes, they also contribute to:

đź“« receiving, mailing and ordering books through interlibrary loan
đź“™ processing and cataloguing new books
đź’Ś home delivery of library materials for those that cannot visit in person

Thank you Naomi, Melanie and Maggie for making these crucial services possible.

It's and today we're putting the spotlight on library programs, and the staff members that run them. So far this year, we have hosted more than 600 programs and events at the Library.

From arts and crafts to early literacy and STEM, we are proud to serve our community with a variety of programs and activities for all ages and stages of life. Thank you to our amazing programming team, Sam, Jill, Katie and Patrick!

As the growing season comes to an end, don't forget to save some seeds from your harvest, and consider sharing with the Library to support our annual Seedy Saturday event and seed library. Your donated seeds will help other local gardeners grow, learn and enjoy their gardens next year.

To donate, please bring your seeds to the Library in labeled bags or envelopes, noting the seed type and year.

Happy Canadian Library Workers Day!

The heart and soul of public libraries are the people who work at them. Behind every great library is a team of passionate people who welcome visitors, support lifelong learning and connect their community with information.

Today, we recognize and celebrate the workers that make it all possible. So to all our wonderful team members: THANK YOU! Your dedication, creativity and kindness are the heart of our library and we appreciate everything that you do.

Ever wonder what happens behind the scenes in the life of a library book?

First, a librarian goes online shopping. We pick books based on the data we have about what our community likes to read, and keep our eyes out for new buzzworthy books getting released.

Once the books arrive, it's time for processing! Staff add some special library touches, like barcodes, spine labels and a dash of love. After processing is completed, it's onto cataloguing. Staff enter information like the author and book title, ISBN and Dewey decimal number into our digital database.

Now the book is ready to be borrowed! Enter you, the reader. You take the book home and read it, and so do your neighbours.

Once the book has been enjoyed by the community, it's time to make room on the shelves. This is called "weeding" in Library Land, and is done periodically to make space for new books by removing books that are no longer being borrowed.

Where do the weeded books go? Some find new homes after being picked up at our never-ending book sale. Some are donated to other community organizations. Others get recycled.

Maybe they'll find their way back to the Library as a brand new book...

Small board game pieces often go missing. Our solution? 3D printed replacements! We used the Library's 3D printer to replace some Blokus pieces so the game can continue to be borrowed and enjoyed by the community.
