Update: Bassano, Alta. - Bassano RCMP is advising that Highway 1 is now passable.

Bassano RCMP on scene at collision – Highway 1 not passable

Bassano, Alta. - Bassano RCMP is advising that they are on scene at a collision involving four semi trucks on Highway 1, about 3 km’s north of Bassano (close to RR 185). There are no serious injuries and no dangerous goods involved; however, the east bound lanes are closed.

Please avoid the area. There is no time frame right now regarding how long it will take to clear the scene.

The County of Newell anticipates conducting drone flights over its hamlets early next week, weather permitting.

The flights will be used to capture high-resolution aerial imagery to support the County’s Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping and asset management work. This imagery will help improve the accuracy and detail of the County’s mapping data.

This work is not expected to disrupt residents or regular activities. Thank you for your cooperation as the County continues to improve its mapping and asset management information.

One lane will remain open during construction. Please slow down, follow all construction signage, and obey the instructions of flaggers while travelling through the work area.
