Good local programs need the right resources to grow and make a lasting difference.

Through the second year of our Capacity Building Grant, we provided $40,000 to four community agencies to expand existing food programs or create new ones designed to continue long after the grant funding ends.

From new commercial kitchen equipment at Sheway to improved food packaging and distribution at House of Omeed, the funding is helping agencies build their capacity and reach more people in their communities.

It's about more than short-term support. It's about building food programs that can make a difference for years to come.

Enjoy this video to learn more about our Capacity Building Grant and how it's helping our community.

October Volunteer Highlight: Meet Melanie!

Since 2021, Melanie has been volunteering with the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, driven by one simple but powerful reason: helping people access the food they need.

For Melanie, seeing and hearing the gratitude behind kind words from clients is a heartfelt reminder of the impact that kindness and community support can have.

She believes everyone can experience vulnerability, especially those facing the uncertainty of where their next meal will come from.

Thank you, Melanie, for your years of dedication, compassion and commitment to helping nourish our community. We’re so grateful to have you as part of the GVFB volunteer family!

That’s a wrap on REEL Thanks 2026! 🎬

The BC film and television industry has come together once again to make a meaningful difference in our community, raising $179,867 to help fight food insecurity across Greater Vancouver. Congratulations to When Calls The Heart, which raised an incredible $71,440.52!

Every dollar raised this year will go towards purchasing healthy, nutritious food for individuals and families who rely on the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

A huge thank you to all the productions, sponsors, cast, crew, and everyone who participated in this year’s REEL Thanks Challenge. Your generosity and commitment shows the impact we can make when our industry comes together for a common cause.

And this is just the beginning! With the support of ambassadors like Andrea Brooks, we’re excited to spotlight even more productions and actors next year, inspiring fans across BC to get involved and help make a difference in our community.

Right now, every dollar you give will be matched dollar for dollar up to $10,000, so a $50 gift becomes $100 of fresh produce and groceries for local families and seniors. Give by October 13th to make your Thanksgiving gift go twice as far and help make sure every neighbour has a seat at the table. 🧡 Instacart

September 30 marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. 🧡 We honour the Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities, and remember the children who never returned home. It is an opportunity to listen, learn and reflect on the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools, while continuing the work of reconciliation.

At the GVFB, we recognize that reconciliation is an ongoing journey. We encourage our community to take time today to learn from Indigenous voices, reflect on our shared history and consider how we can contribute to meaningful change.

🍎🍏 A new way to make good food go further.

We’ve teamed up with the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows School District (SD42) on a new school nutrition pilot, starting with something simple: freeze-dried apple snacks made from surplus Okanagan apples.

By preserving BC-grown fruit, we can extend its shelf life and turn surplus into a convenient, nutritious snack for students, long after apple season.

The pilot launched at Golden Ears Elementary and brings a weekly delivery of apple snacks to participating elementary schools across the district.

The nutrition program supports 22 schools, serving breakfast to approximately 1,500 students each day and distributing nearly 9,000 snacks every week.

It’s a practical example of how food preservation can open up new possibilities for nutritious surplus food, from local growers to school snack programs.

The Challenge in support of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank is officially here! 🎬

For two weeks, cast, crew, production teams, executives, sponsors and fans are coming together to raise funds for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

Since 2013, the REEL Thanks Challenge has raised more than $2 million to help provide healthy, nutritious food for people in our community who rely on the Greater Vancouver Food Bank for support.

Today, we’re kicking things off with our first Daily Sponsor Challenge, supported by Sunbelt Rentals! From 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM today, teams will compete to raise the most funds. The winning team will have an additional $1,000 added to their total!
