Learn about lake/river water testing, why it is important for a growing township, and how you can submit testing data to help build a picture of lake health across Greater Madawaska. Enjoy some tasty snacks from Charbonneau's and the company of other curious and dedicated lake health enthusiasts. THIS WEEK: Ontario Public Library Week is October 18-24. This is a great opportunity to engage with your local library. You can:
-Visit! We love to see you.
-Renew or establish a library membership (memberships need to be renewed annually-- please check with staff to see if your membership is still valid and that your information is up-to-date.)
-Borrow library materials and enter our prize draw for a chance to win a book prize
-Try our Book BINGO! Prizes TBD.
-Participate in an activity or a workshop
-Learn about our e-resources, listen to an audio book in the car
-Use a museum pass (or an Ontario Parks pass)
At the library next week:
Tuesday 1:30pm: Come for coffee, and stay to play cards, Scrabble, chess, cribbage, Mahjong, eg.
Tuesday 2pm-3pm: Mahjong
Tuesday 3:45pm-4:45pm: Kids Club (pre-register with a valid library card) - We will be making a Halloween lantern.

Ontario needs lake data to help protect and preserve the quality of our lakes. The library has four Water Rangers lake water testing kits to lend out. Join us on Saturday, October 24 to learn how you can use a kit to collect and submit data for your lake. We start at 12pm with a virtual workshop brought to us by Water Rangers. At 1pm we will have lunch. At 1:30pm, we will have a visit from Conrad Gregoire and David Overholt-- both have been testing on White Lake for years (learn more about their work here: https://www.wlpp.ca/ ). They will share their experience with us. Please feel free to bring your questions about lake water testing.

If you would like to join for the online portion only (at 12pm) or the discussion portion only (1:30pm), this is fine.

Join us TONIGHT, Tuesday, October 6 at 7pm over at the Griffith & Matawatchan Recreation Centre for a Dark Skies presentation with Rick Scholes, Manager of the Fred Lossing Observatory, Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. Learn about types of light pollution and what you can do to help limit your contribution to this problem.

Join us next Wednesday, October 7 at 1pm for our first Stitch & Social in cooperation with GM's Seniors Active Living Centre. This will be hosted by the library in the youth area. Knitting materials will be available for use (needles, yarn), or bring along a project that you are working on (and/or want to show off!). Looking forward to meeting all of you yarn creatives out there!
