Today we’re celebrating one of CAN-TF2’s four-legged team members, as K9 Loki turns six! 🎂🐾

Loki is marking his birthday on the road, as he and members of CAN-TF2’s K9 team head to Vancouver to train at CAN-TF1’s training sites and complete their annual K9 validations.

Loki and his handler are an important part of our Search team, putting in countless hours of training to maintain the skills needed to find people in complex situations.

Whether searching through rubble, training alongside the team, or boosting morale with a wagging tail, Loki continues to demonstrate the spirit of service and resilience every day.

Happy Birthday, Loki! We hope your birthday is filled with treats, toys, well-earned belly rubs… and a successful validation! 🐕🎉

This week members completed the Situation Unit Leader (SITL) course. The Situation Unit plays an essential role in developing a common operating picture and helping teams understand what’s happening and what’s changing with situations.

There were maps. Lots of maps. Maps on screens, maps on walls, maps with layers, and even a few conversations about whether we need another map. (The answer is always yes.)

Beyond the cartography, participants practiced documenting changing conditions and sharing critical information to make informed decisions.

A big thank you to everyone who participated in the course this week, and congratulations to our newest SITL-trained members!

Today CAN-TF2 joined our partners at the Calgary Police Service to officially unveil a new canine training structure.

The structure provides an environment to build and maintain the skills needed for our canine teams to search safely and effectively, while creating opportunities to train alongside one another.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the design and construction of this new training asset. Canine Vig gives it two paws up!

Today marks 25 years since the attacks of September 11, 2001.

We remember those who lost their lives and recognize the first responders, emergency personnel and volunteers who responded that day and throughout the recovery efforts that followed.

The events of September 11 had a lasting impact on emergency preparedness and response around the world and reinforced the importance of specialized capabilities, interoperability and working together when communities need help most.

Today, CAN-TF2 joins the emergency response community in remembering those who were lost and those who answered the call to help.

CAN-TF2 was proud to once again take part in the annual Tactical Days at the Military Museum on August 14 &15. This event gave visitors a closer look at some of the specialized equipment and skills our team brings to complex emergencies.

Tactical Days also provided a great opportunity for our members to connect with the community and share what Heavy Urban Search and Rescue is all about. We enjoyed spending time alongside other partner organizations including the military, and emergency response.

Thank you to the Military Museum for having us, and to everyone who stopped by to say hello and learn more about CAN-TF2. A thank you as well to our members who volunteered their time throughout the weekend.

Recently our CAN-TF2 members sharpened their vehicle extrication skills during an intensive hands-on training course. Working through realistic exercises, members practiced vehicle stabilization, patient access, extrication techniques, and team coordination using specialized rescue equipment. The training emphasized the importance of communication, precision and safety, both for the people being rescued and our members.
