Country Hills Playground Boosters

Everyone’s community project and playground journey is different—and we’ve discovered that what worked for one group might not necessarily work for our group. Or, what worked in the past doesn’t work in the present.

After researching grant opportunities to help fund future playground upgrades, we discovered that two of them do not fund playground projects.

However, every "no" points us in the direction of a potential "yes," and we've been reaching out to community partners for help and advice.

DYK? The school reserve site on Country Hills Drive NW has been vacant for decades, but change is on the horizon!

A CBE K-9 school was announced last year as part of the 2026-2029 CBE Three Year Plan 🥳🥳🥳

Recently, there was a provincial funding announcement and the Country Hills school is now has funding for the planning phase, along with another Ward 3 neighbourhood, Carrington.

A K-9 school will surely have a new playground--but school playgrounds are the responsibility of parent school councils.

This exciting news doesn't deter us from improving our local playgrounds :-)

We have been quiet, but we are still active.

When we first began this journey, we had a lot to learn about playgrounds. Now we’re again in a learning phase—how to ideate and vision a new playground.

We plan on applying for a Federation of Calgary Communities
Good Places Grant. This is a new grant that funds projects of all sizes, from $500 on up. The grant aims to fund both the physical transformation of public spaces—such as adding seating, recreation, or murals—and ongoing programming that activates these spaces, such as events and community gatherings.

We’re attending webinars in January and February to learn more about the grant and how to apply. Wish us luck and stay tuned for updates!

The playground equipment at the Country Hills Drive NW playground was manufactured by Westland Rec-creation Inc., which no longer seems to exist.

We support our Coventry Hills Outdoor Space friends with their playground initiative! You may recall they broke ground this past summer on a new playground.

Have you noticed some new trees around Country Hills?

Not only were new trees planted by the City of Calgary at the playing field on Country Hills Drive, but also at the playground on Country Hills Grove!

These trees not only enhance our community, but also provide future shade.
