Scotia Place and Calgary's Culture + Entertainment District have been designed to deliver inclusive, barrier-free experiences for everyone. Some of the many accessible features and supporting infrastructure being integrated across Scotia Place and The C + E District include:
• Seamless street-level access: 14 Ave S.E. (between 5A St and Stampede Tr S.E.) is being raised by 2 metres (6.5 feet) to create seamless, barrier-free connections between Scotia Place, the surrounding plazas and the broader C+E District – enhancing accessibility, the pedestrian experience and multi-modal movement.
• Service animal relief areas: Two dedicated spaces – one indoors and one outdoors.
• Sensory-friendly quiet rooms: Calm, quiet spaces throughout the building to provide a place to reset and reduce sensory overload.
• Inclusive sport design: Both the Esso Community Arena and main facility are designed to support adaptive sport, including sledge hockey.
As Scotia Place continues to take shape within The Culture + Entertainment District, these features and the public realm improvements will help create a destination where everyone feels welcome, comfortable and connected.

June 2 update: Rivers expected to peak today as rainfall eases – no widespread flooding anticipated in Calgary.
Over the past three days, precipitation in Calgary has exceeded the monthly average of 80 mm, with 10 – 15 mm more expected today. River flows are tracking as expected and conditions will continue to be monitored.
What to expect:
• Some low-level pathways remain closed, with possible additional closures as river levels peak.
• Water pooling may continue in streets and catch basins.
• City crews are monitoring for riverbank erosion and damages to infrastructure and drainage systems; no damage has been reported.
🚧 As a precaution, crews have completed drainage checks, cleared catch basins and deployed a pump in Bowness.
Evacuations, major closures and flood barrier activation are not anticipated at this time.
⚠️Stay safe near rivers:
• Fast-moving, cold and debris-filled water creates hazardous conditions.
• Keep a safe distance from riverbanks and follow all advisories.
• A City of Calgary Boating Advisory remains in effect. Check calgary.ca/watersafety for updates.

June 1 update: High river flow but no widespread flooding expected on Bow and Elbow Rivers.
Recent rainfall across Calgary and upstream areas has led to rising water levels on the Bow and Elbow Rivers, with another 40-70 mm of rain expected through Tuesday.
Cooler temperatures and reservoir management continue to help moderate flows. Current conditions are being closely monitored as forecasts evolve.
You may notice:
🚧 Pathway and underpass closures (with more closures possible).
💧Water pooling on streets and around storm drains.
⚠️ Safety reminders:
· Stay back from riverbanks – including children and pets – as high flows can cause instability.
· A Boating Advisory remains in effect. Visit calgary.ca/watersafety for updates.
✅ What you can do:
· Keep storm drains clear and report standing water (after 90 minutes) via 311.
· Direct rainwater away from your home.
· Check sump pumps and backflow valves.

🚨 🚨 The Bow and Elbow rivers are above safe levels, and the Calgary Fire Department has issued a boating advisory that is now in effect. Please stay off the river for your safety and for emergency responders.
High, fast-moving water, cold temperatures, and debris are creating dangerous conditions, with poor visibility making hazards harder to spot. Pathway and underpass closures along the Bow and Elbow Rivers are expected to begin this weekend.
Visit calgary.ca/watersafety for more information as well as calgary.ca/flood for the latest information on river conditions.
Visit calgary.ca/pathwayclosures for up-to-date information on pathway closures.

🧹 Street sweeping is underway across Calgary
Our teams from Mobility and Calgary Parking are working together to keep your neighbourhood streets clean, clear and safe all spring long.
Before your street is swept, our Mobility team posts "No Parking" signs in your neighbourhood.
How to read the signs in your community:
🪧 Signs go up at least 24 hours in advance: you'll have time to make a plan
🚫 The parking ban covers the full posted time window: typically 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday (excluding statutory holidays)
👮 Calgary Parking enforces parking bans: vehicles left on streets with a parking ban after 8 a.m. are subject to ticketing and towing, no exceptions.
Does your street still need to be swept? Look up your address at calgary.ca/sweep to see exactly when your street is scheduled and sign up for email or text alerts so you're never caught off guard.
