AMBASSADOR’S INDEPENDENCE DAY MESSAGE TO ZAMBIANS IN ANGOLA
On this day, Zambia celebrates 61 years of independence. As your Ambassador to Angola, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all Zambians at home and here in Angola. It is a moment to reflect on our journey with pride and to look forward with hope for continued love and progress.
Sixty-one years of sovereignty is a milestone that should make every Zambian smile. From our very first day, we have been a nation known for its enduring peace, a legacy we must all cherish.
To my fellow Zambians in Angola, I want to reaffirm that this new chapter means deepening the strong partnership between our two nations across all sectors. It signifies a continued commitment to friendship and collaboration. This new era promises to strengthen the bonds between our two countries. We are committed to fostering partnership and goodwill in every area of cooperation
Let us never take for granted the freedom that our forefathers so courageously won for us.
Happy Independence Day, Zambia!

LUANDA - 22 October 2025
I attended my first meeting of African Ambassadors accredited to Angola. The welcome was gracious and memorable, hosted by Her Excellency Neveen El‑Husseiny, Ambassador of Egypt to Angola.
The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Embade, Ambassador of Mauritania and Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps in Luanda.
It was a pleasure connecting with several colleagues — including ambassadors based in Luanda who are also accredited to Zambia.
I look forward to working more closely with this community as we deepen our continental cooperation.
Dr. Elias Munshya

Australian Business Delegation for IZIC 2025
Today, Saturday in Canberra, we had the opportunity to hold a strategic meeting with Mr John Kalunga of Seth Diesel, Mr Andreck Lungu, as well as Mr Ignitious Nsombo, Zambian entrepreneurs based in Perth, Australia. Our discussion focused on preparations for the upcoming Invest Zambia International Conference (IZIC 2025) and the broader business and investment prospects, particularly in Zambia’s mining sector.
We reflected on the significance of the IZIC platform, organised by the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA), as a moment for serious engagement between Zambian businesses in Australia, and international stakeholders. The planned business delegation will spend approximately ten days in Zambia, allowing time for business-to-business and government-to-business meetings both before and after the main conference dates.
One of the key topics discussed was the emerging framework of Zambia’s local content regulations in the mining industry. These new policies are aimed at ensuring stronger Zambian participation by requiring local directors, prioritising Zambian suppliers, and creating opportunities for indigenous businesses. These developments present both challenges and exciting possibilities for Zambian entrepreneurs, especially those in the diaspora.
We shared honest perspectives about the hurdles faced by Zambian-owned firms, such as competing with long-established South African businesses, limited access to mining supply chains, and skills gaps in technical areas. We agreed that increased international exposure, strategic collaboration, and consistent narrative building will be key to overcoming these obstacles.
A collaborative approach is emerging among the delegates—one rooted in mutual support, knowledge-sharing, and the leveraging of Australian business standards to promote Zambian excellence. Together, we outlined next steps, including the development of company profiles, capability briefs, tailored presentations, and setting up direct engagements with mining sector players.
Our shared long-term goals are clear: to build sustainable partnerships in the Zambian mining sector, support skills development, and establish a network of Zambian businesses in Australia with a global outlook.
As the High Commission, we remain fully committed to supporting this delegation and creating more pathways for Zambian businesses to thrive—at home and abroad.
Zambia is growing, and Zambians everywhere are ready to grow with it.

As we prepare for the Invest Zambia International Conference (IZIC 2025), taking place from July 16 to 18 in Lusaka, excitement continues to grow.
The Zambia High Commission in Canberra is proud to be leading a business delegation from Australia, comprising companies and individuals eager to invest, collaborate, and build lasting partnerships with Zambian counterparts across sectors.

Good evening Lumezi and surrounding areas.

It was with great sadness that I joined fellow mourners in Choma, Southern Province, to pay my last respects to the late Mrs. Mweemba Hamaleka Mubita, former First Secretary-Education at the Zambia High Commission in Canberra.
I was honored to have joined other government officials, including Honourable Cornelius Mweeta, Zambia's Minister of Information and Media, as well as the Royal Highnesses as we bid farewell to this remarkable public servant.
Mrs. Hamaleka-Mubita's dedication, commitment, and integrity were evident in her outstanding service to Zambia.
Her contributions to our foreign service were marked by excellence, humility, and unwavering professionalism. Even when she was not feeling well at times, she demonstrated remarkable dedication, often reporting for work and staying late to ensure her duties were fulfilled.
What made her service even more remarkable was how she balanced her professional obligations with deep spiritual devotion. A committed member of her church, she lived her faith through acts of service, both in her official capacity and in her personal life.
Her passing is a significant loss, not just to those who knew her, but to the nation.
We have lost a national asset, and her legacy will be remembered with deep respect and affection. May her memory inspire future generations of public servants.

We gathered at the Canberra National Seventh-day Adventist Church for a memorial service in honour of our late colleague, Mrs Mweemba Hamaleka Mubita, who served as First Secretary–Education at the Zambia High Commission in Canberra.
Gwen and I had the honour of leading members of the Zambian Diplomatic Mission and fellow diplomats accredited to Australia in paying tribute to a remarkable public servant whose legacy will be remembered with deep respect and affection.
Mrs. Hamaleka-Mubita was a dedicated and committed diplomat who served Zambia with distinction and integrity. We have lost not only a colleague but a national asset. Her contribution to Zambia’s foreign service was marked by excellence, humility, and unwavering professionalism.
We also extend heartfelt appreciation to the Canberra National Seventh-day Adventist Church for the spiritual support it extended to Mrs. Hamaleka-Mubita and the wider community. The church’s care and spiritual nourishment made a meaningful difference in her life and in her service.
We are also deeply grateful to the Zambian community, the African community, and all who have stood with the bereaved family during this difficult time.
Pastor Ben Kosmeier presided over the service and offered words of encouragement to the mourners, reminding us of the Christian hope in eternal life. He described Mrs. Mubita as a faithful and active member of the church community.
A moving tribute from her husband, Mr. Clive Likezo Mubita, was read on his behalf by Mr. Charles Mucholo. He spoke of his wife as a true friend and confidant, whose love and partnership were a source of strength.
And representing the family, Mr. Polite Hamaleka extended his heartfelt thanks to the Zambia High Commission, the church, and the community for their unwavering support.
The service was attended by family, friends, members of the diplomatic corps, and congregants who came together to honour the life, faith, and service of a woman who touched many lives.
Mrs. Hamaleka-Mubita’s body is scheduled to arrive in Zambia this week for burial.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
