The University of Calgary Marine Conservation Club is aimed at raising awareness and inspiring other

Our club aims to promote education and raise awareness about various threats plaguing marine species around the globe. These issues may include the shark-finning industry, the seal hunt in Eastern Canada, the presence of marine mammals in aquariums such as SeaWorld and the effects of long-line fishing. We hope to raise money for local and global organizations working to preserve marine habitats and species as well as inspiring others to get involved to protect marine life :)

Good morning people and happy Monday! Thank-you to all who made it to our documentary event last week! We look forward to having another one early in the new year.

We know that a lot of you are busy with the last week of class and final exam studying... When you're taking a study break (or procrastinating :)), take a look at this annual report by the Marine Conservation Institute. A big issue that they address is marine protected areas (no-take reserves) and the obligation of G20 countries (Canada is one!) in being stewards in marine conservation and protection.

We will be showing "The End of the Line", a documentary that addresses the profound implications of a future with no fish This is a marine issue that CAN affect us Calgarians!

Buy tickets (5$ minimum donation) on this upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday all day at our table across from kobe beef in MSC, or at the door on the night of the event, which will be Tuesday, November 25th starting at 7pm in Bianca conference room MSC.

Various LNG development projects have been announced for the BC coast. These projects would have a fairly detrimental effect on the ecology of the coast, as well as boosting greenhouse gas emissions. Currently, there's a petition against LNG development in the Barkley Sound area - please sign it and say no to LNG projects in Barkley Sound!
