We're looking for all urban or rural paramedics who are passionate about critical care and interested in earning a critical care title!

Applications are now open for the 2026 STARS Critical Care Paramedic Program through the University of Calgary’s Continuing Medical Education Department.

This comprehensive 15-week program is designed to foster growth and enhance the knowledge and skills of professionals caring for critically ill and injured patients. Through hands-on learning, advanced clinical education, and real-world transport experience, participants will build the skills needed to deliver lifesaving care in some of the most challenging environments.

Today marks one year since the loss of STARS founder, Dr. Greg Powell.

Dr. Powell was a true visionary. He witnessed a preventable gap in rural health that cost lives, and sought to change it. Dr. Powell’s commendable experience as a doctor and pilot led to the creation of a charitable helicopter air ambulance organization we now know as STARS.

And now, Dr. Powell’s legacy centres how we move forward – with gratitude for everything he built. The significance of his loss cannot be understated, but his legacy lives on through the life saving work we do every day.
