"Consultation fatigue is real."
A new commentary in Research Involvement and Engagement looks at patient and public involvement through the eyes of early-career researchers — and one patient's own story cuts to the core: asked to take on a leadership role with no contract, no role description, and authorship discussed only late in the project.
The takeaway: contributors shape research questions, methods, and interpretation — real intellectual contributions. So who owns those insights? Conversations about authorship, ownership, and recognition need to happen early, and be revisited as roles change.
Good data governance isn't intimidating. It just needs to be intentional.
