Heavy rain is in the forecast for Calgary, which means puddles, rubber boots, and rapidly rising water levels. Your Calgary Firefighters want to remind you to stay safe.
⚠️ Stay safe around high water:
• Avoid the banks of rivers and streams, as they can become unstable and collapse without warning.
• Never walk, swim, or drive through flowing water if you cannot see the pavement beneath it.
• Stay well back from fast-moving water along the Bow, Elbow, and other local waterways.
• If you become stranded in your vehicle by moving water, stay with your vehicle and move to the roof or hood if water continues to rise.
• Be aware of low lying areas where water can collect, like underpasses.
Water moves fast and conditions can change quickly. Stay aware, stay safe, and keep a safe distance from high water.

14-0! Today, Council unanimously voted to begin the process of standing up a Fire Services Committee.
This is a critical first step toward better serving Calgarians through a more effective and efficient governance model.
As Calgary rapidly grows toward two million people, our city needs a fire service that is prepared for today and built for the future. Calgary is a major metropolitan city, and it needs a fire department to match.
Thank you to Councillor Wyness for championing this important work, and to all Councillors for moving it forward.
