Today, we are sharing a new story from our Hearing All Voices series, celebrating the cultures, traditions, and experiences that make PEI’s early learning community stronger. 🤝
As children and educators across PEI celebrate Halloween in their centres and schools today, and families prepare for Halloween in their home communities tomorrow, we also want to take this opportunity to share and recognize another important cultural celebration: Día de los Mu***os (Day of the Dead). Celebrated over several days, this Mexican tradition honours loved ones who have passed and keeps their memories and connections alive.
In this video, Claudia Pina and Abril De la Rosa Miranda, Early Childhood Educators at Little Wonders Early Learning Centre, share how they bring their Mexican heritage into the centre through the celebration of Día de los Mu***os.
By sharing their traditions, creating an ofrenda (altar), and introducing children to the meaning behind this important cultural celebration, Claudia and Abril create meaningful opportunities for children, families, and fellow educators to learn about different cultures and perspectives.
Their story reminds us that while our backgrounds and traditions may be different, we share so much in common. We are all part of a community, and everyone deserves to feel welcomed, valued, and a sense of belonging.
For Claudia and Abril, being able to share their culture with the children and educators around them is also an opportunity to feel seen, heard, and proud of who they are.
We are proud to be part of an Island community where people can share their stories, celebrate their traditions, and learn from one another.
Thank you to Claudia, Abril, and the children, families, and educators of Little Wonders for welcoming us into your space and sharing your voices with our community. ❤️
