Friends of the Coaldale Public Library

Our Craft Fair is coming up on Saturday, November 21, and we're looking for a few more volunteer greeters!

Greeters welcome everyone as they come through the door. The fair runs 10:30am to 3pm, so shifts start a little before and wrap up a little after. We'd love it if you can give us 2 hours or more. T-shirts provided.

Interested? Email Amanda at [email protected] so we can get you on the schedule.

The Coaldale Public Library Friends Society has been around since 1998. We're a volunteer-run nonprofit that funds the things the library wants but can't squeeze out of a basic operating budget — programs, equipment, furniture, events. Membership is free (yes, actually free) and open to anyone 16+. More soon!

Want to help out at the library without a big commitment? That's exactly what volunteering with the Friends of the Library looks like.

You don't need to be a member. You don't need to sign up for anything ongoing. We run a few events each year — the book sale, the Spring and Fall Craft Fairs, the occasional fundraiser — and we're always glad to have extra hands for a few hours.

Drop us a message if you're interested, or just keep an eye here for when we're looking for help.

What does the Friends Society actually fund? Here's a short list:

The Cricut machine in the makerspace. The 3D printer. New furniture. Children's programming. The art gallery. Events that bring people through the door.

We raise money through our annual book sale, the Spring and Fall Craft Fairs, and casino fundraisers — and it goes straight back into the library.

None of it happens without community support. That's kind of the whole point.

The haunted school needs haunting, and we could use a few more hands. 👻

Thank you to everyone who's already signed up to help decorate! We'll be at the old John Davidson School (just across from the library) this Thursday, Oct 1, from 10am to 5pm, with a lunch break around noon.

What we'll be doing: • Hauling furniture and decorations over, by car or on foot • Hanging room dividers (AKA table cloths) • Hanging lights • Arranging things in a suitably spooky fashion

Come for an hour or stay all day. Send us a message, or just show up. If the door's closed, knock and someone will let you in.

Heads up: the library will be closed on Thursday.

Joining the Coaldale Public Library Friends Society costs exactly $0. We meet 4-5 times a year, help fund things the library can't cover on its own, and somehow ended up buying a 3D printer and a new bank of patron computers along the way.

If you've ever thought "someone should do something about that" — hi, we're someone. Come to a meeting.

The Coaldale Public Library is great. The Friends of the Coaldale Public Library exist to make it even better.

We're a volunteer-run nonprofit that's been raising money for the library since 1998 — funding things the municipal budget doesn't cover. Programs, equipment, events, and a few things that might surprise you.

If you use the library, you've probably already benefited from something we helped make happen.

Follow along to learn more about what we do — and how you can be part of it.
