Four high school classes. One week. Hundreds of conversations that could change lives.

These photos represent three of the four high school classes Street Safe Self Defence Training Company worked with this week.
And what we teach these young adults goes far beyond traditional self-defence.

We teach students to recognize violence BEFORE it becomes physical.

Violence rarely begins with the first punch, grab, or threat. There are often behavioural indicators, boundary violations, changes in communication, and escalating patterns that provide opportunities to recognize danger early.

Our violence prevention training focuses on three critical areas:

BEHAVIOUR: Recognizing threat indicators, understanding human behaviour, and identifying when conflict is escalating toward violence.

AWARENESS: Developing situational, environmental, and personal awareness to recognize potential danger before it becomes a crisis.

CHOICES: Understanding how decisions, reactions, boundaries, and personal behaviour can influence the outcome of a potentially dangerous encounter.

We also teach practical physical skills, because sometimes awareness and de-escalation are not enough.
But our primary objective is clear.

We are not teaching students how to win fights. We are teaching them how to recognize, avoid, and respond to violence.
After working with more than 40,000 high school students, one thing has become increasingly clear:

Violence prevention should not be an optional conversation in our schools. It should be an essential part of preparing young people for life.

A CALL TO SCHOOL PRINCIPALS, EDUCATORS, SCHOOL BOARDS, AND STUDENT WELL-BEING LEADERS:

We invest in academic achievement, mental health, and student success. But are we doing enough to equip students with the practical knowledge to recognize threatening behaviour, establish boundaries, make safer decisions, and protect themselves?

We cannot wait until a serious incident happens to decide that violence prevention education matters.

Schools have an opportunity to be proactive rather than reactive.

If you are responsible for student safety, school culture, or student well-being, I encourage you to make evidence-informed, practical violence prevention education part of your school's safety strategy.

Bring this conversation into your classrooms BEFORE an incident forces it into your hallways.

Street Safe Self Defence Training Company is working with schools to give students practical skills and knowledge they can carry well beyond graduation.

Principals and school board leaders: Let's talk about bringing this training to your students. Message me directly to discuss a program for your school.

Thank you to the educators and students who welcomed us this week.

🚨 REALTORS® — THIS SHOULD CONCERN EVERY ONE OF YOU.

A REALTOR® in Colchester County, Nova Scotia, reportedly experienced something terrifying.

It started with a telephone call from someone claiming to represent CIBC's fraud department.

The caller claimed a credit card had been fraudulently opened in her name and instructed her to download an app.

The REALTOR® became suspicious, consulted her IT support person and decided to contact her bank directly.

She recognized the warning signs and refused to comply.
The caller allegedly became abusive and hung up.

Approximately 20 minutes later, the same woman reportedly called back, telling the REALTOR® she had a surprise waiting in her front yard.

Outside were heavily armed RCMP officers.
Someone had falsely reported a hostage situation, claiming two people had been shot and the REALTOR® was hiding inside her home.

This is called SWATTING.

A false emergency report designed to trigger a police response, potentially placing innocent people and responding officers in extreme danger.

The REALTOR® also reported receiving threats against herself and her family, including a bomb threat.

The original account states RCMP confirmed the incident. I have not independently verified that confirmation.

NOW, REALTORS®, THINK ABOUT THIS.
How did the offender know where she lived?
How much personal information about you is publicly available?

Your photograph, telephone number, social media activity, business information, family connections and potentially your home address.

At Street Safe, we teach something fundamental:

Violence prevention begins long before physical contact.

An offender doesn't need to stand in front of you to create a potentially deadly situation.

This is why Digital Self Defence, Threat Recognition, Behavioural Awareness and Risk Assessment are essential components of REAL REALTOR® safety training.

Recognizing danger isn't just about identifying a suspicious person at a showing.

Sometimes the threat is hundreds or thousands of kilometres away.

REALTOR® SAFETY MUST GO BEYOND THE PROPERTY SHOWING.

We need to understand how offenders gather information, manipulate people, escalate threats and exploit our professional accessibility.

Never follow instructions from an unsolicited caller. Verify independently. Protect your personal information. Report threats to police.

Your safety doesn't begin when you open a property's front door. It begins with what you recognize BEFORE you ever get there.

Stop the Before, so the After Never Happens.

You want to know how to recognize a toxic and unhealthy workplace?

Watch what happens when an employee has the courage to raise a legitimate concern.

Instead of addressing the problem, management shifts its attention to the person who exposed it.

Suddenly, the employee becomes the problem.

Their credibility is questioned, their behaviour is scrutinized, and in some cases, they become the target of the very people responsible for protecting them.

This is how systemic workplace failures are allowed to survive.

When leadership becomes more concerned with protecting its reputation than correcting its failures, accountability disappears and intimidation takes its place.

Speaking up should never come with a price.

A healthy workplace addresses the concern. A toxic workplace attacks the person who raised it.

And when that behaviour comes from supervisors and senior management, we need to stop calling it a personality conflict.

It's a failure of leadership.

SEXTORTION: A GROWING THREAT TO OUR YOUTH.

Violence doesn't always leave a bruise. Sometimes, it leaves a young person believing there is no way out.
According to the Canadian Centre for Child Protection, reports of sextortion increased by 150% over a six-month comparison period.

This is a disturbing reality that parents, educators, and young adults cannot afford to ignore.

Sextortion is a form of psychological violence involving manipulation, intimidation, and criminal exploitation.
It can begin innocently.

A friend request. A compliment. A conversation. Someone showing interest.
Trust is established. An intimate image is obtained. Then come the threats.
Pay money. Send more images. Follow instructions. Or the images will be shared with friends, family, and classmates.

Now imagine being 14, 15, or 16 years old.
The fear. The shame. The humiliation. The belief that your life is over.

Tragically, sextortion has been linked to youth suicides.

THIS IS WHY WE ADDRESS SEXTORTION IN OUR HIGH SCHOOL VIOLENCE PREVENTION PROGRAM.

At Street Safe Self Defence Training Company, we teach students that violence isn't always physical.

Recognizing predatory behaviour, understanding manipulation, identifying warning signs, and knowing how to respond are essential life skills.

But one of the most important messages we share is this:

IF YOU ARE BEING SEXTORTED, YOU ARE THE VICTIM OF A CRIME. NOT THE CRIMINAL.

Don't pay. Don't send additional images. Preserve the evidence, stop engaging, report the threats, and reach out for help.

And to every parent, consider this:
Your child's fear of your reaction should never be greater than their fear of the person threatening them.

If young people believe they'll be judged or punished, they may remain silent when they need support the most.

We cannot prepare students for the realities of violence while ignoring the digital world they live in every day.

Violence prevention isn't just about teaching young people how to defend themselves physically. It's about giving them the awareness, confidence, and knowledge to recognize danger before it escalates.
Because sometimes, the most important self-defence skill is knowing when and how to ask for help.

Give us five hours to prepare your students for situations that could change their lives forever.

AUTHORITY IS NOT CONTROL. ENFORCEMENT STARTS WITH CONTACT.

Yesterday, we completed a T.R.A.A.C.S. session with this dedicated municipal By-Law team.

Good people doing a very difficult job, meeting members of the public in situations where their presence isn’t always welcomed.

The job description explains the responsibility. But does the training prepare them for the human being standing in front of them?

That person may be carrying anxiety, financial pressure, fear, frustration or past trauma. Those pressures can shape an interaction. They do not automatically make someone dangerous, but they demand awareness, sound judgment and effective communication.

The employee brings a nervous system into that encounter, too.

Today, this team understands what “CONTACT FIRST” means.

Every interaction begins with how you approach, position yourself, recognize behaviour and communicate. Before you explain the regulation, your presence, tone and words are already influencing the encounter.

You cannot de-escalate what you never recognized.

And you cannot assume a uniform, a title or a well-rehearsed script will give you control.

These professionals deserve training that fits their actual responsibilities, authority, working conditions and individual abilities.

Training that connects recognition to response. Communication to personal safety. Practical skills to the decisions they may have only seconds to make.

That is why we teach T.R.A.A.C.S.—Tactical Risk Awareness and Applied Control Skills.

Because knowing how to enforce a rule and being prepared to manage the encounter are two different responsibilities.

Thank you to this team for your engagement, your willingness to learn and the difficult work you do for your community.

Stop the Before, so the After Never Happens.

All Women!!! would you pay for this?

We’re exploring a Canadian membership service combining violence-prevention education with practical support when something goes wrong.

An uncomfortable date. Feeling unsafe while travelling. An incident that leaves you needing transportation, accommodation or someone to contact a trusted person. Or help getting out of a dangerous relationship.

One number to call for help coordinating your next steps, with you choosing who gets contacted and what gets shared.

Would you consider paying a monthly membership for this? What support would make it worth paying for? What montly amount is reasonable to you. 24 hours a day, Seven days a week. Right across Canada.

We’re testing the idea, and your honest feedback—including “no” will help shape it.

WHY YOUR USE OF FORCE TRAINING APPROACH IS WRONG

If your security training starts with how to use force, it may already be starting too late.

Use of Force should never be the centre of a security program. The focus should be on understanding behaviour, recognizing risk early, and making decisions that may prevent force from becoming necessary.

Security professionals need to know how to:
• Recognize changes in behaviour and escalating risk
• Read the environment and manage distance
• Communicate and de-escalate where possible
• Set boundaries and make sound decisions under pressure
• Disengage, seek support, and protect themselves when needed
• Respond appropriately if contact cannot be avoided

This is not about teaching people to fight. It is about preparing them to recognize what is happening, understand their options, and respond responsibly.

Authority is not control. A uniform, a title, or the legal authority to act does not control another person’s behaviour.

The goal is not to use force more effectively.

The goal is to recognize danger sooner, reduce the chance of escalation, and help everyone get home safely.

That is where security training should begin.
