Norfolk County is joining municipalities across Ontario in recognizing Local Government Week, October 18 to 24.

Local Government Week highlights the important role municipal governments play in their communities and recognizes the staff and elected officials who support the programs, services and infrastructure residents rely on every day.

𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗸 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆

Municipal government delivers many of the services and infrastructure residents rely on every day. In Norfolk County, that includes roads and snow removal, water and wastewater, waste collection, parks and recreation, transit, building permits and inspections, planning and land use, property taxes, emergency services, long-term care, housing and social services, and community and cultural services.

Residents can learn more about these services and how they are funded through Norfolk County’s 2027 Budget engagement by visiting https://engagenorfolk.ca/Budget. The Budget Challenge and survey provide opportunities to explore municipal priorities and share feedback until October 31.

𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

With a municipal election underway, Local Government Week is a timely opportunity to learn more about local government and the role municipal government plays in the community.

Online voting for the 2026 municipal election began on Friday, October 9, and will continue until Friday, October 23 at 8:00 p.m. There are a number of Online Voting Assistance Centres, which also serve as advanced polling stations with paper ballots, open during that period. Election Day is Monday, October 26, 2026.

To learn more about the municipal election, visit norfolkcounty.ca/vote.

𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱

Residents are encouraged to engage with their local government. Opportunities include sharing feedback through public engagement at engagenorfolk.ca, participating in community initiatives, staying informed about Council decisions, and volunteering on a committee.
