Driven by a profound belief in the public good, Peter Lougheed saw an engaged government as vital to fostering a strong, healthy community. For him, the ultimate goal of governance was to champion inclusion and ensure that every single Albertan was supported.

We see these same values in the Progressive Tory Party of Alberta . If you want a return to these progressive conservative values, join the us today to make a change for good!

Interesting reading!

Danielle Smith's referendum is starting to expose some cracks in the UCP coaltion, it seems, even among the MLAs.

That's too steep a price for Albertans. Join the Progressive Tory Party of Alberta and send the message that Albertans are Canadian.

If Alberta separation is such a great idea, why can't separatists even agree on what it would cost?

Premier Danielle Smith says leaving Canada could cost Alberta nearly $400 billion in transition costs, debt obligations, border infrastructure, trade disruptions, pensions, military responsibilities and new federal-style institutions.

Separatist organizers say the cost would be closer to $6 billion.

Economists point to Brexit and warn Alberta's situation could be even more disruptive. One University of Calgary economist estimates trade barriers alone could cost Alberta roughly $30 billion every year. Brexit scholars warn that untangling pensions, taxes, debt, social programs and trade agreements could lead to years of expensive and bitter negotiations.

This is why CBC matters.

Not because it tells people what to think. Because it puts the competing claims side by side and asks the hard questions.

Who is right?

If the gap between $6 billion and $400 billion is that large, shouldn't Albertans demand independent evidence before voting?

What happens to pensions?

What happens to Indigenous treaty relationships?

What happens to trade with the rest of Canada, Alberta's largest customer?

Would Alberta be stronger on its own, or would it spend years rebuilding institutions that already exist?

Before anyone votes on separation, shouldn't they know the actual price tag?

Lougheed was the kind of leader who could listen to multiple perspectives, even if they opposed his own opinions. He said "[we’re] the government because we’re the party that has the most seats. That means the caucus, not the cabinet. And it was my determination and the determination of others that the caucus would be dominant over the cabinet. And there were times when the caucus would overturn the view of the cabinet. Of all the things that we did, I rate that very near the top."

That's real leadership. The ability to listen and adjust course based on the feedback of everyday Albertans. Join the Progressive Tory Party of Alberta today to bring that kind of government back to the Legislature. Help us make a change for good.

Did you kow that Lougheed respected that a majority government was about the caucus, not the cabinet? He said "[we] made it abundantly clear — and this is, I think, very distinctive in Canada — we made it abundantly clear that our decisions were made by caucus and not by cabinet. And it was a fundamental thrust of our government."

Woudn't it be nice to have a government that listens to everyones elected representatives? Join the Progressive Tory Party of Alberta to make a change for good!

Lougheed believed that politics was a team sport, we are better together. He said "[my] whole life, 365 days a year, was team sports and I found that anything in my public life we really accomplished that was worthwhile we accomplished as a team."

We believe the same thing. Join the team at the Progressive Tory Party of Alberta to accomplish something great! Help us make a change for good!
