π³πͺ² Help Protect Albertaβs Ash Trees! πͺ²π³
Neighbours can play an important role in helping monitor and protect our urban forest from the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), an invasive insect that threatens ash trees across Canada.
A new community monitoring project is encouraging residents to help identify and report signs of Emerald Ash Borer activity in Alberta. Early detection is critical in helping municipalities respond quickly and protect vulnerable trees.
Signs to watch for include:
πΏ Canopy thinning or branch dieback
πͺ΅ Bark splitting or unusual shoots growing from the trunk
π¦ Woodpecker damage on bark
π³οΈ Distinctive D-shaped exit holes
π Visible insect activity on or near ash trees
If you notice possible signs of Emerald Ash Borer, you can submit photos and observations through the project page below to support local monitoring efforts.
