President’s Panel
Returning to the roots of living curriculum: wisdom with/in body, relations, and earth
Dwayne Donald (Alberta) & Celeste Nazeli Snowber (Simon Fraser) in conversation with Claudia Eppert (Alberta) & Ellyn Lyle (Cape Breton)

Tuesday, June 2
13:30-14:45
1L04 Classroom

The panel this year brings together the work of Dr. Celeste Nazeli Snowber and Dr. Dwayne Donald to explore the roots of living curriculum as an embodied, relational, and living approach to education. The discussion invites educators to reflect on how slowing down, attending deeply, and embracing wholeness might reshape teaching and learning in a time marked by ecological uncertainty, colonial legacies, and social fragmentation.

CONVOCATION FEATURE | Leah Peters, '26 BSc/BEd

Leah Peters's desire to be a teacher and love for science led her to pursue a combined bachelor of science/bachelor of education program at Augustana. She loved the idea of the smaller classes, but ultimately was drawn to Augustana's interdisciplinary approach to learning through its core courses. As she recalls, “It was the only program in Alberta that enabled me to have a teachable major in biological sciences while minoring in social studies!” Her years at Augustana included unexpected opportunities working as a research assistant, and her years at the University of Alberta Faculty of Education involved participating in an event that informed and encouraged would-be teachers about living and teaching rurally.

Congratulations to educational psychology master's student Joanna Huynh on receiving the 2026 Margaret Brine Graduate Scholarship from the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW)!

The Margaret Brine Graduate Scholarship is awarded to female graduate students at the University of Alberta who have shown strong academic achievement and a dedication to leadership, education, and meaningful community involvement aligned with the values of CFUW.

"This recognition means a lot to me because it reflects not only my academic work, but also the importance of supporting women in higher education and research. As a graduate student, there are moments when the work can feel challenging and overwhelming, which makes support from organizations like CFUW especially meaningful and motivating," Joanna says.
