CoSA is a restorative justice initiative to provide reintegration support for convicted sex offenders, with the goal of having "No More Victims."
Circles of Support & Accountability is a community-based initiative operating on restorative justice principles. We work with former violent and sexual offenders who have completed their prison sentences and require assistance to reintegrate into society. These individuals are known as our Core Members and are considered a high-risk to re-offend. CoSA Edmonton provides the essential guidance, couns
eling, and most importantly friendship that our Core Members require in order to develop healthy, productive behaviour. When an offender is released from prison, they may request a Circle to assist them. A group of four to six volunteers will meet with the Core Member regularly to provide them with positive support, and to assist them with their re-entry to society. By easing their transition into the community the Circle helps Core Members become responsible and productive individuals. The Circle also acknowledges the community’s safety concerns by remaining vigilant and holding members accountable for their behaviour. CoSA volunteers are supported by a Coordinator and a network of professionals from organizations including the Edmonton Police Service, the Edmonton John Howard Society, Alberta Health Services, the Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton, and the Correctional Service of Canada.
