Nonprofit Organization The Edmonton Firefighters Memorial Society was formed in 1997.

It rose from a desire to recognize those members of the Edmonton Fire Department who had given the supreme sacrifice in the service of the citizens of Edmonton.

It is with great sadness that we inform you of Retired District Chief Gregory (Greg) Stemler’s passing, this occurred on Saturday May 16, 2026. Greg was 93.

It is with sadness that we inform you of the passing of retired Captain Wayne Kulak.

Wayne had a distinguished firefighting career from October 1967 until June 1992.

A Celebration of His Life was held on April 1, 2026.

It is with sadness that we share news of the passing of retired Senior Firefighter Thomas “Tom” Yelic on April 20, 2026.

Tom served with the fire department from May 1969 to February 1984.

We share with sadness the news of the passing of retired Chief of Operations Rob Hartmann on April 9, 2026.

Rob’s distinguished firefighting career spanned from December 1975 to May 2001. He was an active member of the Edmonton Firefighters’ Union Executive for many years, serving as Treasurer in 1980, Secretary from 1984 to 1986, and President from 1987 to 1998.

It is with sadness that we share the passing of retired Captain Bob Reid on March 18, 2026, at the age of 82.

Bob had a distinguished firefighting career spanning from November 1968 to May 1999. In retirement, he remained committed to fellow firefighters by serving on the EFD Retirees Brigade Executive Board.

t is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of retired Aerial Lieutenant David (Boomer) Broomfield at 82 years of age.

David passed away peacefully in a hospital in Slovenia on March 2, 2026, following a prolonged battle with bone marrow cancer.

His firefighting career spanned from September 1976 to September 2001.

It is with sadness that we inform you of the passing of retired District Chief Thomas “Tom” Corbett on February 24, 2026.

Tom had a dedicated firefighting career from April 1951 to May 1987.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of retired Station Captain Daniel “Dan” Dolynchuk. Dan served a distinguished firefighting career from July 1980 to January 2011.

For nearly five years, Dan lived with a terminal lung disease, maintaining a positive outlook until he passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 23, 2026. His family is grateful for the memories shared during his final days.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of retired Station Captain Andre “Andy” Gobeil on February 18, 2026.

Our deepest condolences and support go out to his family during this incredibly difficult time. The family has requested privacy at this time as they grieve their loss.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of retired Station Captain Wayne Grotski. Wayne passed away at home on Sunday, February 8, 2026, surrounded by his family and friends.
His firefighting career spanned from August, 1989 until January 1, 2017.
