Before jumping to consequences, try connection first:
- Get down to their eye level
- Use a calm voice
- Ask "what's going on?" instead of "why did you do that?"
- Offer a hug if they're receptive

Behaviour is communication. Connection builds safety. Safety enables healing.

For foster parents, love means showing up every day, even on the hard days. It means providing stability when a child's world feels uncertain.

You don't need to be perfect to make a difference. You just need to be present.

Thinking about fostering? We're here to support you every step of the way.

Foster caregivers: How have you built connection with your foster child this week?

Maybe it's:
- Hot chocolate after school
- Reading together before bed
- A simple ""I'm glad you're here""

Small moments build trust. Trust builds healing.

At Crossroads, we believe that every child deserves to see themselves reflected in their parents, their community, and their future. For Black children in foster care, maintaining connections to their culture, identity, and heritage is essential to their healing and growth.

We're committed to:
- Supporting cultural connections for all children in care
- Recruiting diverse foster families who reflect the children we serve
- Providing resources that celebrate and honour Black history and culture
- Working with community partners to ensure children stay connected to their roots

Every child deserves to grow up proud of who they are.
