A strong Métis Nation embracing Métis rights. Re-occurring violations of this policy may lead to a user being permanently blocked from commenting.

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government (Oh-teh-pim-swak) of the Nation within Alberta (MNA) strives to keep our comment section open and welcoming to all opinions, thoughts, and ideas. The comment section is a place where users may reach out to ask basic questions about programs, services or to be directed to the appropriate contact. We aim to provide a safe and positive space for people by promoting equity, diversity, and dignity to all and encourage users to participate in discussions. The MNA will only delete/hide comments or block accounts/people if the content meets any of the following criteria:
• racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, or otherwise hateful
• aggressive, violent, or threatening
• obscene or pornographic
• encourages criminal activity
• contains private information (phone numbers, email addresses or other identifying information)
• posted for advertising purposes
• spam content (the same comment posted repeatedly in the same post or on multiple posts)
• unproven or inaccurate claims
• political party messages

Moderators may also remove other comments they feel threatens the safe and free discourse about Indigenous culture, history, ways of life and MNA programs and supports on MNA social media channels.

We’re excited to extend the nominations deadline for our Kahsketakihk Council to January 11.

You now have 74 additional days to nominate a Métis Elder or Knowledge Keeper to our Kahsketakihk Council, which will advise and support our Citizens’ Council.

This extension is to ensure all interested Citizens have the opportunity to nominate an Elder or Knowledge Keeper from their Territory for consideration.

Join Wellspring Alberta’s Indigenous Cancer Sharing Circle

Navigating cancer can be overwhelming, but you do not have to walk this path alone. Join Wellspring Alberta’s Indigenous Cancer Sharing Circle, a safe and supportive space to connect with others, share experiences, and find strength in a supportive community. This monthly virtual gathering is for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis adults living in Alberta, whether you have been impacted by cancer yourself or through supporting a loved one.

With a vision to ensure no one has to face cancer alone, this sharing circle is co-led by an Elder or Knowledge Keeper and a Wellspring program leader.

Date: First Monday of every month

Time: 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. MST.

Location: Virtual and open to all Indigenous peoples

Voting is open for the 2026 Late Fall District Election & District By-Election! If you’re a Citizen of Calgary Nose Hill Métis District, have your say by casting your ballot in person, online, or by mail.

Online voting is available anytime during the voting period of October 26 to November 3, 2026.

In-person voting is open November 3, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Best Western Premier Calgary Plaza Hotel & Conference Centre, 1316 33 Street NE, Calgary, Alberta.

Gender and Sexuality Self-Identification: Inviting all Métis to participate in our survey!

We invite you to participate in our survey on gender and sexuality self-identification. This survey aims to deepen our understanding of the Métis Nation’s demographics and our Citizens' priorities, with a focus on the gender and sexual identities of Métis in Alberta.

Along with better understanding the distinctions found within our demographics, the survey aims to identify shortcomings in existing programs and opportunities to implement new services to support the distinct and varying demographics of our Citizens.

Our monthly Citizens’ Council Meetings are jam-packed with important discussions and decisions towards building our Nation.

What happened this month at our October 21 and 22 Citizens’ Council meetings?

• Citizens’ Council reviewed and began work on the 28 Citizens' Proposals from the 2026 Citizens' Gathering for the first time.

• Citizens' Council was formally introduced to the newly appointed Ombudsman, Derrick Campbell (pictured in the third image of this carousel).

• Provincial Secretary Grant Lacombe updated Citizens’ Council on his work with St. Paul des Métis.

• Members from the Métis National Council (MNC) joined virtually to update Citizens’ Council on the MNC’s work with the Métis Veterans Legacy Project.

• Citizens’ Council approved the amended Medicine Hat District bylaws and reviewed various letters, including one received from District Captains.
