For all groups that book BBQS at the museum:

Thank to everyone for a great year at the bbqs. Unfortunately we have had incidents occur that will cause changes to be made going forward. There were several incidents where our volunteers were verbally berated and set up and clean up procedures were not followed, leaving our volunteers to clean up the mess. Therefore, for future bbqs there will be an agreement for each group to sign outlining everyone’s responsibilities and expectations. We will also have a new procedure for booking dates, that will be announced in the coming weeks. Bookings are not based on prior use. It is a good time to remind everyone that we are privileged to have an ideal location and space to put on these fundraising events. We ask that all groups remember that we are all volunteers and that needs to be respected.

Thank you from the Board of the Esterhazy Community Museum.

Another favourite photo on East Main St. Esterhazy is this place built as the Esterhazy Hotel, then known as Lipinski Hall, then the Banow Block. It was reinvented to include retail spaces, pool room, as well as the Colony Cafe, with rooms to rent upstairs. It was lost to fire in 1960.

Looking back at how things have changed over the last few decades, cable tv was coming to town in 1967 with the hopes of getting up to 4 channels. Today with 100’s of channel choices and countless streaming services this is another reminder of simpler times. 📺

Well this is an interesting little nugget of information. There was a request to rezone to put up a DAIRY QUEEN in Esterhazy on Sumner St in 1967! It was not approved, and had it been it would have been in competition with the Dairyville which opened in 1964. 🍦
