Carbon Monoxide (CO) Awareness Week runs from November 1 to 7, 2026. For this year’s campaign, Municipality of South Huron is reminding everyone to recognize the health risks and danger CO poses and offering tips, suggestions, and advice on how to protect your family and stay safe.
“Having a working carbon monoxide alarm in your home is the surest way to know you and your family are protected from exposure to and injury from a carbon monoxide leak,” said Deputy Fire Chief Herbert. “Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas, making it impossible to detect without a working carbon monoxide alarm.”

This week the contractor completed the remaining water service transfers and continued the installation of new sidewalks, and concrete boulevard, with the majority of the east side complete. Next week, work will continue on the sidewalks, concrete boulevards, and the final watermain tie-in at Church Street. Driveway paving and any remaining base asphalt road cuts are scheduled to be completed next week. One lane of traffic in both directions will continue on Main Street until completion of the project; with the potential for a single-day detour onto William Street (if required).

Businesses remain open during construction; access to homes and businesses will be reasonably maintained throughout construction. With traffic disrupted and lanes reduced, please expect delays and plan accordingly. Your patience and understanding is greatly appreciated.

2026 SOUTH HURON ELECTION DATA

Voter turnout was 4280 of 8901 = 48.1%
Of the 4280 votes cast, 21 ballots were declined.

The Ontario average voter turnout is still being tabulated, however, with 392 of 444 municipalities reporting so far, the provincial average is 36%. (Source: https://elections2026.amo.on.ca/web/en/home )

A reminder that the quarterly Stephen Utility bills are due on October 30/26. If paying online, please ensure to leave enough time for payments to be processed by the bank (typically 1-3 business days). Payments must be received in our office by the deadline to avoid late fees.

A little over 3 hours left to cast your vote!
You have until 8pm tonight to cast your vote. If you need any assistance or haven’t received your voter information letter yet, reach out to the Election team, we’re at town hall until 8pm (519-235-0310x0, [email protected]).
The Municipal Clerk will publish and announce the unofficial results as soon as they are available after the closing of the voting period. Council Chambers at town hall will be open starting at 7:45 p.m. this evening for anyone interested in attending for the unofficial results in person. Unofficial results will be posted to the Municipal website as soon as possible after voting closes and messaging shared on municipal social media accounts.
Please note that election night results remain unofficial until they are certified by the Municipal Clerk following the Election.

You have until 8pm tonight to cast your vote in the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election using a phone or device connected to the internet and following the instructions in your Voter Information Letter. The Voters Helpdesk and voting kiosk at Town Hall is available today until 8pm.
