Update at 5:45pm: The natural gas leak has been secured and impacted roads have been re-opened.

Update at 4:00pm: Fredericton Fire, Police and Liberty Utilities are working on the scene.

Be advised the following road closures are in place until further notice:

- Kimble Road between Bliss Carmen School and Canterbury Drive
- Birmingham Court

Liberty Utilities is working to repair the leak. Affected residents have been contacted by Liberty Utilities or the Fredericton Fire Department. Residents are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Update at 3:10 PM: Firefighters have declared the school area safe, students are being dismissed by bus as usual, parents may pick up their students from the school as they normally would, walkers are being directed in a safe direction by school staff.

Previously: The Fredericton Fire Department is operating at a natural gas leak in the 700 block of Kimble Drive. Please avoid the area if at all possible, including the intersection of Forest Hill Drive and Kimble Drive. Streets in the area are closed.

The Bliss Carman School is sheltering in place. Students are safe, and firefighters are in the area with gas monitoring equipment.

Just before 8:00 p.m. this evening your Fredericton Fire Department responded to reports of a fire in an apartment building on Bishop Drive. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and the incident was declared under control just before 8:30 p.m.

This morning your Fredericton Fire Department extinguished a fire at a residence on Douglas Avenue, between Maple Street and Main Street. The incident was declared under control at 04:59. There are no injuries reported in association with the incident. Thank you for your support.

Thermal imaging cameras are handheld devices that allow firefighters to operate in zero-visibility environments such as smoke-filled or dark rooms, supporting both victim search and safe navigation during fireground operations. Unlike the human eye, these cameras detect heat rather than light, providing a critical advantage in assessing fire conditions, improving situational awareness, and enhancing firefighter safety and effectiveness.

Thermal imaging cameras are issued to all Fredericton firefighters on every shift, making this advanced training directly applicable to daily operations.

FireSmart New Brunswick staff are set up in front of City Hall today through Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

If you have questions about wildfire risk or want to learn practical steps to protect your home and property, this is a good opportunity to stop in and speak with them directly.

They can provide straightforward guidance on reducing wildfire risk around your home, including vegetation management, building considerations, and simple actions that make a difference at the neighbourhood level.

Wildfire risk is a shared responsibility, and small changes can have a meaningful impact on both individual properties and the broader community.

Recently, Fredericton Fire Prevention staff provided fire extinguisher training to a local organization. One particular student was especially thrilled to be involved. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience, including the instructors.

Following the delivery of the training, the fire prevention officers prepared a certificate and purchased a frame with their own funds, then returned to present their gift to the inspired student.

Police and first responders have cleared the scene, and the road is now re-opened.
