As temperatures continue to rise, York Sunbury Search and Rescue encourages everyone to take extra precautions when spending time outdoors.
🔥 Know the Warning Signs:
Heat Exhaustion • Heavy sweating
• Cold, pale, clammy skin
• Weak pulse
• Nausea or vomiting
• Dizziness or fainting
• Muscle cramps
🚨 Heat Stroke – Medical Emergency • High body temperature
• Hot, dry skin
• Strong, rapid pulse
• Headache
• Confusion or loss of consciousness
• Little or no sweating
✅ Stay Safe During the Heat Wave 💧 Drink plenty of water
🧢 Wear a hat and light-coloured clothing
🕶️ Use sunscreen and sunglasses
🌳 Seek shade and air-conditioned spaces
⏰ Avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon heat
👵👶 Check on seniors, children, and vulnerable neighbours
🐕 Never leave people or pets in a parked vehicle
📞 If you suspect someone is suffering from heat stroke, call 911 immediately and move them to a cooler location while waiting for emergency services.
Stay cool. Stay hydrated. Look out for one another.

York Sunbury Search and Rescue (YSSR) is proud to support the 16th Annual Autism Connections Superhero Fun Run & Walk!
Join us on Saturday, June 20th at O'Dell Park, Fredericton where our team members and Command Post will be on-site throughout the event.
We’ll also be sharing information about our Project Lifesaver® Program, an international program that helps protect vulnerable individuals who may wander due to autism, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or other cognitive conditions. Through specialized radio-frequency technology, Project Lifesaver helps bring loved ones home safely.

York Sunbury Search and Rescue (YSSR) members recently participated in an AdventureSmart training session focused on outdoor safety, preparedness, and survival awareness.
AdventureSmart promotes the simple message: Be Prepared. Have Fun. Stay Safe. Through practical exercises and discussions, members strengthened their knowledge of trip planning, navigation, emergency preparedness, and wilderness safety principles.
AdventureSmart education helps reduce preventable incidents and encourages outdoor enthusiasts to make informed decisions before heading into the backcountry.
Key training topics included: ✅ The AdventureSmart programs and principles ✅ Trip planning and preparation ✅ Navigation and situational awareness ✅ Emergency preparedness ✅ Outdoor safety best practices ✅ Public education and community outreach
Continuous training ensures our members are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to support both search and rescue operations and outdoor safety education within our communities.

Whether you’re hiking, camping, ATVing, fishing, hunting, or simply enjoying the outdoors — taking a few extra minutes to prepare can make all the difference.
✅ Tell someone where you’re going
✅ Check weather and trail conditions
✅ Carry essentials: water, food, flashlight, first aid kit, and communication device
✅ Dress for changing conditions
✅ Stay on marked trails whenever possible
✅ Know your limits and travel with a buddy
The outdoors is meant to be enjoyed safely. Preparation saves lives and helps ensure everyone returns home safely. 💛

🚨 PROJECT LIFESAVER – SUNDAY TRAINING RECAP for New class of electronic search specialists ready to go!

Members of York Sunbury Search and Rescue (YSSR) continued their Project Lifesaver training today, building on the knowledge and skills needed to help quickly locate vulnerable individuals who may wander due to cognitive conditions such as Alzheimer’s, autism, or related disorders.Thank you to all members who dedicated their time and effort throughout the weekend training sessions. Your commitment helps make our communities safer. 💙

🟧Touch A Truck Fredericton 🟧

York Sunbury Search and Rescue (YSSR) was proud to take part in this year’s Touch-A-Truck Fredericton event! 🚑🚒🚜
After a couple of years away due to scheduling challenges, it was wonderful to reconnect with the community and spend the day meeting families, answering questions, and showcasing our emergency response vehicle.
A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our display, supported the event, and took the time to learn more about search and rescue operations in our region. Community events like this are a great opportunity to connect with the public and share the important role volunteer organizations play in keeping our communities safe. 💙
We would also like to thank the organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and all participating agencies and businesses who helped make the day such a success.
