Our monthly yard waste pickup program is next week, June 22-26! 🌿

From now until November, yard waste will be collected in the last week of each month (on your regular collection date). Your yard waste will help create more topsoil for our city parks and flowerbeds and keep green material away from our landfill!

UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, the Sitansisk (St. Mary’s First Nation) Powwow has now been moved to Willie O’Ree Place. As a result, there are no longer any road closures associated with this event.

These mats are designed to assist mobility devices, wheelchair users, and people with limited mobility in accessing the water. 🌊 By bringing this non-slip and stable walkway to Killarney Lake Beach, the supervised lake is now accessible to so many more users.

Update at 5:45pm: The natural gas leak has been secured and impacted roads have been re-opened.

Residents can expect to see Liberty Utilities continuing to work in the area. The Fredericton Fire Department thanks residents for their patience and understanding.

Update at 4:00pm: Fredericton Fire, Police and Liberty Utilities are working on the scene.

Be advised the following road closures are in place until further notice:

- Kimble Road between Bliss Carmen School and Canterbury Drive
- Birmingham Court

Liberty Utilities is working to repair the leak. Affected residents have been contacted by Liberty Utilities or the Fredericton Fire Department. Residents are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Update at 3:10 PM: Firefighters have declared the school area safe, students are being dismissed by bus as usual, parents may pick up their students from the school as they normally would, walkers are being directed in a safe direction by school staff.

Previously: The Fredericton Fire Department is operating at a natural gas leak in the 700 block of Kimble Drive. Please avoid the area if at all possible, including the intersection of Forest Hill Drive and Kimble Drive. Streets in the area are closed.

The Bliss Carman School is sheltering in place. Students are safe, and firefighters are in the area with gas monitoring equipment.

Summer is here, and our trails are getting busier, which makes now the perfect time to brush up on trail etiquette and remind each other how to stay safe, friendly, and respectful out there.

Let’s work together to keep our trails enjoyable for everyone, whether you’re walking, running, cycling, or exploring with your pup.

Here are a few rules to keep in mind:
🚫 No gas or diesel devices
🚴 Observe the 20 km/h speed limit. Respect is a two-way trail.
🔔 Signal your presence with a bell. Trail safety is a team sport.
🚵 Wear a helmet. Safety starts from the top, literally.
➡️ Keep right except to pass. Trails are made to be shared.
👀 Stay alert and be considerate. Everyone’s experience matters.
🐕 Keep pets on a leash. Happy tails = happy trails.

Did you know that Wilmot Park has a fruit forest?🌳Starting in 2025, this park features trees that will grow into full-sized, fruit-bearing trees, with smaller edible herbs planted around their base, all for residents to enjoy and harvest.

This project was inspired by public feedback during the development of the Urban Forest Management Strategy, where residents and community groups expressed interest in food forests.

🍓 Why a fruit forest?
Fruit forests offer a meaningful way to connect people with the urban environment by:
• Providing access to healthy, fresh food
• Offering opportunities for stewardship and education
• Supporting pollinators and enhancing biodiversity
• Helping address food insecurity and affordability
• Growing quickly, making them ideal for developing areas

The Wolastoq Watershed Paddling Trails are now officially launched.🛶

This tourism initiative by Fredericton Capital Region Tourism invites residents and visitors to explore the Wolastoq (Saint John River) watershed through 23 paddling routes. Featuring easy-access waterways, some of which have been used by the Wolastoqiyik People for millennia, these trails offer a unique way to experience some of Atlantic Canada's most beautiful natural landscapes.

⚠️ Remember to slow down and use caution when driving through active construction zones. Thank you for helping keep everyone safe.

🚳 The Valley Trail between Angelview Park and 1475 Woodstock Road will be closed starting June 15 for approximately 3 weeks for trail embankment work. Pedestrian detours will be in place via nearby sidewalks.

👷‍♀️ Beginning June 15, linear piping work will start at the Cliffe Street and Brown Boulevard intersection, followed by roundabout construction. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane with flaggers on site to direct vehicles. Learn more: www.fredericton.ca/cliffestreet.

🏗️ Mobilization for the Hummingbird Street Infrastructure Upgrades project will begin next week, with road closures expected to follow the week after. Local access will be maintained throughout construction. Learn more: www.fredericton.ca/hummingbirdstreet.

⚒️ Starting the week of June 15, work will begin on Burpee Street between the Lift Station and Floral Avenue. The road is expected to be fully closed between Floral Avenue and the Lift Station the following week, with local access maintained. Learn more: www.fredericton.ca/burpeestreet.

💡 Trail lighting work along the Gibson Trail is resuming this summer. This off-trail project will add approximately 2 km of additional lighting and is expected to cause only minor disruptions for trail users.

⛏️ Curb and sidewalk work next week:
- Bridge Street (sidewalk renewal)
- Allen Street (sidewalk renewal)
- Stafford Drive (sidewalk renewal)
- DeMerchant Drive (preparation for new curb installation)
- Marlborough Drive (excavation for sidewalk renewal)

🚧 Milling work next week:
- Fulton Avenue (Douglas to Sierra and Maple to Pugh)
- Lian Street – Roundabout to Roundabout

❌ The Sitansisk (St. Mary’s First Nation) Powwow event is taking place next weekend. Union Street (between Cliffe Street and Hughes Street) will be closed beginning Friday, June 19, at 5 p.m. and will remain closed to all traffic until Sunday, June 21, at 8 p.m. to accommodate the event.

📍 Reminder: Businesses along Lincoln Road are still open during construction.
