From feminist research to peacebuilding: Connecting knowledge, resistance, and action. Through our IMvisible initiatives, we were pleased to attend two important events in Ottawa: CRIAW's 50th Anniversary and the Group of 78's Reinventing the Architecture for Peace Conference.
Two different events, but three interconnected lessons:
1-We are not starting from zero. Our work today builds on generations of feminist advocacy, resistance, and collective action.
2-Violence does not stop at borders. Women's experiences of war, displacement, and survival continue to shape their lives after arriving in Canada, reminding us to approach gender-based violence through a broader, intersectional lens.
3-Knowledge should lead to action. Feminist research, storytelling, and lived experiences must help shape community programs, policies, and systemic change.
For IMvisible GBV and IMvisible EMpowerment, these conversations reinforced the importance of connecting research with community action, recognizing women as knowledge producers and leaders, and strengthening collective advocacy. Because meaningful change is not only about what we do today, but also about honouring those who came before us and creating space for those who come next.
