Greenstone Fire has been busy out in local schools during this Fire Safety Week. Being able to recognize and react appropriately to danger is an important topic, especially when spending time home alone.

The basics of fire, smoke alarms, and escape planning were all core topics as always. The kids agreed to harass their caretakers to check their alarms so make sure they work in case you are one of those people!

It was great to engage the kids as many had some more in depth questions and curiosities. Our Fire and Life Safety Educators were able to tie in age appropriate school curriculum concepts with safety messaging such as the use of our senses (to detect danger), fire as a method of decomposition, forms of energy and changing states, buoyancy, and much more. Turns out there is a use for all those science classes in firefighting!

Thank you to Nakina Public School, Notre Dame des Écoles, Our Lady of Fatima, and St. Joseph Catholic School who hosted us over the last week, though we still have many more we intend to coordinate visits with. This week alone, 6 sessions were attended resulting in 259 educational contacts made. As an added bonus, the Nakina group got to see the new PUMP 4 for it's first time being out publicly since put into service two days prior and now serving the community.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving. Please don't leave your cooking unattended and stay aware in the kitchen; cooking incidents are a leading cause of house fires in Ontario.

Fire Ban Lifted Effective Midnight

The Municipal fire ban implemented on July 12, 2026 will be lifted effective 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026. This coincides with the Ministry of Natural Resources lifting of the Restricted Fire Zone for the region.

Within the Municipality of Greenstone, a burn permit is required for open-air burning at each address where burning will take place. Recreational burn permits are free. If you had an active 2026 burn permit prior to the fire ban, your permit is still valid and no action is required.

The Municipality of Greenstone continues to invest in reliable emergency services with the addition of four new fire apparatus to its fleet.
Earlier this year, a new tanker, funded through the Municipality's 2025 Capital Budget, was received and placed into service in April. The Municipality has now also taken delivery of three new pumper/tanker fire trucks, funded through the 2026 Capital Budget. Together, these investments represent a significant step forward in modernizing Greenstone's fire fleet and ensuring firefighters have the equipment they need to respond safely and effectively across the municipality.
