Have you heard of the Grey Lady? 👰‍♀️

The most famous ghost to haunt the Halifax Citadel is the "White" or "Grey" lady of the Cavalier Building. Since the early 1900s, many people have reported seeing the apparition of a young woman wandering the veranda or the barrack rooms.

Take a candlelight ghost tour at Halifax Citadel National Historic Site and explore the shadows of this historic 19th century British fort.

October 1st is Treaty Day in Nova Scotia, and the beginning of Mi'kmaq History Month. Treaty Day commemorates the signing of treaties and celebrates the culture and contributions of Mi'kmaq people.

On June 4, the 300th anniversary of the signing of the Peace and Friendship Treaty at 1726 was commemorated at Fort Anne National Historic Site. The treaty, signed on the grounds of what is now Fort Anne, was the first treaty between Indigenous Peoples and any European state in the region that would become the Canadian Maritimes.

The treaty served as the basis for future negotiations and Peace and Friendship Treaties and laid the foundation for Crown-Indigenous relations in what is now Eastern Canada.

Today, September 30, is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

By wearing orange today, we honour the children who were lost in the residential school system and the Survivors from whom we continue to learn. This evening, the Town Clock at Halifax Citadel NHS will be illuminated in orange. 🧡

In 2020, the former Shubenacadie Indian Residential School in Nova Scotia was designated as a national historic site. Learn about how Survivors and their communities have chosen to commemorate the story of this site and others: https://parks.canada.ca/culture/designation/pensionnat-residential.

It's the first day of fall! 🌇

Make the most of the season with a scenic and historic walk around the ramparts of the Halifax Citadel, down the trails of York Redoubt or to the Prince of Wales Tower in Point Pleasant Park. The fortifications at these national historic sites are all part of the Halifax Defence Complex.
