Shelter Nova Scotia Shelter Nova Scotia supports people: from an emergency bed to housing; from corrections to community; from crisis to stability.

We shelter people in times of need and are there through residential, trustee and outreach programs. Shelter Nova Scotia has seven facilities - six overnight or residential locations plus a community drop-in centre - in the Halifax area. We provide a bed for up to 106 people a night, 365 days a year, and support some 1,500 people in our community annually.

We’d like to send a huge thank you to Joshua O’Riley AKA Loveself and Radstorm for hosting the NOLO II benefit concert for Shelter Nova Scotia the end of October. We would also like to thank the bands who played including Quoia States, Caleb Rozz and band, Revelstoke Power Supply, and Bluer.

No One Left Outside (NOLO) started as a grassroots benefit concert with a simple idea: bring people together through music and turn that energy into something that can actually help our community.

We are so grateful to everyone who helped make NOLO II possible, from the artists and organizers to everyone who came out to show their support. It’s a reminder that meaningful change starts with community, and that when we come together, even small acts of support can make a big difference. Thank you for helping us make sure no one is left outside.

🌟 Community Champion: Sobeys Spryfield 🌟

This month, we’re celebrating Sobeys Spryfield for their continued generosity and commitment to our community.

Thanks to Sean, Shelly, and the Sobeys Spryfield team, folks living at two of our supported housing locations, Herring Cove Apartments and The Rebuilding, have enjoyed special holiday meals made possible by their generous grocery donations.

Most recently, their support helped make Thanksgiving extra special, bringing folks together over a delicious meal and creating moments of connection, joy, and belonging. Their ongoing support of Joan’s Table, a volunteer meal program that provides meals to folks in our supported housing who have experienced homelessness, helps make these meaningful moments possible.

A special shout out to Shelly Skerry, who has been a passionate supporter of Shelter Nova Scotia for many years. With more than 20 years at Sobeys Spryfield, Shelly’s commitment to her community has helped foster a meaningful connection between Sobeys Spryfield and Shelter Nova Scotia.

Thank you, Sobeys Spryfield, for showing up year after year and helping make our community a place where everyone feels cared for. We’re so grateful to have you in our corner ❤️

As we settle into fall and the cold weather approaches, we are happy to share that both Herring Cove Apartments and The Rebuilding will be welcoming a few new tenants in the coming weeks. Brittany Sinclair, House Manager at Herring Cove Apartments shares:

“It’s always exciting to offer new individuals access to safe, supportive housing as they work toward greater stability.”
