Bruno visited TABLE twelvefifty!

Our BC Wildlife Park stuffy, Bruno, made another stop to visit one of the wonderful local restaurants supporting our A Sweet Reason to Help campaign!

This time, Bruno stopped by TABLE twelvefifty at the Coast Kamloops Hotel & Conference Centre, where he got a closer look at their delicious Beaver Tail Bannock dessert, served with warm maple rosemary butter, vanilla ice cream, and walnuts. And yes, it looks and tastes just as amazing as it sounds!

Looking for a great place for dinner? Visit TABLE twelvefifty, enjoy a delicious meal, and make sure to save room for dessert!

Through our A Sweet Reason to Help campaign, $1 from every qualifying dessert purchased supports the BC Wildlife Park, helping us continue our work in wildlife care, rehabilitation, and conservation education.

A big thank you to TABLE twelvefifty for being part of this meaningful community initiative!

Support local, enjoy something sweet, and help BC’s wildlife!

Denning Season Has Begun at the BC Wildlife Park!

Our black bears, Numees and Hamilton, have already settled into their winter dens, while Dawson, Knute, Clover, and Tuk are still awake, although their activity levels are gradually decreasing!

Dawson’s appetite for cantaloupe is no surprise! Bears are naturally attracted to sweet fruits, which provide sugars that can help fuel their bodies. During the fall, bears build up fat reserves to sustain them throughout the winter months.

In British Columbia, grizzly bears can spend five to seven months denning, typically beginning in October or November.

During this time, their heart rate and metabolism slow significantly, allowing them to survive on stored body fat without eating or drinking.

There’s still time to visit our bears before they settle into their winter dens!

We’re open on weekends, statutory holidays, and SD73 Pro-D Days from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

We are open this Friday October 23!

If you have a spare tree to donate, you can drop it off at the Park during our weekend hours.

We are open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekends, Statutory Holidays, and Pro D Days.

Your support is greatly appreciated and helps us make this another magical year for our community.

Two Proud Milestones for the BC Wildlife Park!

Last September, the BC Wildlife Park celebrated two important achievements recognizing our ongoing commitment to animal welfare, wildlife conservation and education!

CAZA Accreditation Renewal!

The BC Wildlife Park successfully renewed its accreditation with Canada’s Accredited Zoos and Aquariums (CAZA) for another five years! This rigorous process evaluates animal welfare, veterinary care, habitats, nutrition, conservation, education and facility operations. We are honoured to remain among a select group of CAZA-accredited institutions in British Columbia and across Canada.

Burrowing Owl Conservation Award!

We were also honoured to receive an award recognizing our contribution to the Burrowing Owl Breeding Program, led by the Burrowing Owl Conservation Society of BC.

Since 1992, we have proudly partnered with the Society to help protect and recover this endangered species through one of the world’s most successful burrowing owl conservation breeding programs.

Both achievements reflect years of dedication, teamwork and our mission of Conservation Through Education.

A special thank you to our staff, volunteers, conservation partners and community for supporting the important work we do at the BC Wildlife Park!

It’s Rutting Season for Kirk and Yukon!

Have you noticed our caribou Kirk and Yukon pushing their antlers against each other, rubbing them on barrels, and getting a little more active lately? There’s a fascinating reason behind this behaviour!

Fall is breeding season for caribou, also known as the rut. During this time, male caribou experience hormonal changes that can make them more active and competitive. In the wild, males use their antlers to spar with one another, establish dominance, and compete for access to females.

Now that Kirk and Yukon have both shed the velvet from their antlers, you may notice them rubbing their antlers against objects, pushing barrels around, or even engaging in some sparring! These are all natural behaviours associated with this time of year.

Next time you visit the BC Wildlife Park, keep an eye on Kirk and Yukon! You might get to observe some of these fascinating seasonal behaviours firsthand.

We are open weekends, Pro D Days and Stat Days, 09:30am to 04:00pm

One Last Turkey Post from Thanksgiving!

We couldn’t wrap up our Thanksgiving celebrations without sharing Süja’s enrichment!

Animal Care Supervisor Ardice prepared a turkey enrichment for our female Arctic wolf, and of course, we had to share it with you!

But there’s more to this Thanksgiving treat than you might think! Food enrichment activities like this encourage animals under human care to use their natural behaviours, including sniffing, investigating, searching for food, and figuring out how to access it.

These activities help keep animals physically active, mentally stimulated, and engaged with their surroundings, all important parts of their overall welfare!

We hope you’ve enjoyed seeing some of the special Thanksgiving enrichments our Animal Care team prepared for the animals at the BC Wildlife Park this year!

And that’s officially a wrap on Thanksgiving at the BC Wildlife Park. Until next year!
