The Kindersley Fire Department's Fire Prevention Open House was a huge success. Held on Saturday, October 3, from 4 to 7 p.m., the event gave visitors an opportunity to tour the fire hall, explore the equipment on display, and meet members of the department.

The Public Education Division was busy throughout the event, helping adults and children learn about fire safety in the home. Visitors also enjoyed a barbecue featuring burgers and hot dogs.

A special thank-you goes to Co-op and Save On Foods for their generous donations in support of our Public Education Division. We also thank everyone who attended and helped make the open house such a success.

Fire Prevention Week 2026
Fire Prevention Week runs from October 4 to 10. This year's theme is Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower, announced by the National Fire Protection Association.
The message is both timely and practical. More homes than ever rely on rechargeable devices, power tools, e-bikes, scooters, and battery-powered toys. While these products offer convenience, lithium-ion battery failures can cause fires that spread quickly.

This year's campaign focuses on everyday charging habits that can reduce the risk of overheating, smoke, fire, and battery failure. Many preventable battery fires begin with simple shortcuts, such as using the wrong charger, continuing to use a damaged cable, charging a device on a bed or couch, placing large battery-powered equipment near an exit, or ignoring warning signs such as swelling, excessive heat, leaking, or unusual odours.
Charge safely, watch for warning signs, and protect your home and family.
