Not from our shared gardens, but my personal crowning gardening achievement of the year: a lunch-sized watermelon! (Secateurs for scale.) It came from a neglected plant that I forgot about for most of the season. I thought it might be a wayward pumpkin, but this guy is a rugged individualist.

Still a lot of beauty to be found in our gardens this late in the season.

Kale can withstand cold temperatures. You can harvest kale even after the leaves freeze.

These two tomato plants gave us about two bushels of the best little sauce tomatoes! The last few will probably become green tomato chutney.

Yet another reason to buy local, organic (when possible) fruit in season. Anyone else old enough to remember when we only had access to fresh strawberries in the summer months?

Think garden season is over? Nope! We're getting our indoor planters ready now with mini cukes, mini tomatoes and a whole bunch of leafy greens. If you have a sunny window, you can do it, too!
