Dawn House Services and Housing for Women Supporting women and children experiencing homelessness in Kingston, Ontario. Our vision is for all women to live in safe, affordable & accessible housing.

Dawn House provides shelter, housing and practical support, helping women find safety, stability and a place to move forward. Dawn House supports, empowers and advocates for homeless, marginalized and vulnerably housed women. We believe that no one chooses to be homeless and that safe, affordable housing is a fundamental human right. Homeless women are entitled to be treated with empathy and dignity, and without judgement. we support a woman's right to unrestricted access to information & services and support her in her right to exercise her choices. Dawn House is expanding services to include supportive long term housing and transitional/congregate housing in a wellness centered environment with on site supports to meet individual needs. We strive, not just to house, but to improve the quality of life for every woman we serve.

When we think about youth homelessness, we might picture a young person sleeping outside or staying in a shelter. But homelessness can begin long before that.

Some young people move between friends' couches, stay temporarily with relatives, or remain in housing where they don't feel safe. Others face housing instability when they leave the Children's Aid Society without the support they need to find a place of their own.

These situations can be difficult to see, and young people may not know where to turn for help.

If a young person you know is struggling with housing, listening without judgment and helping them connect with a trusted adult or youth-serving organization can be a meaningful first step.

In Kingston, One Roof Youth Hub brings together youth-serving agencies to help young people access support in one location.

Good food and good company!

Ridley Drive hosted a Thanksgiving meal for Dawn House residents and staff from across our locations. Most of those who joined us were from Ridley, and the meal was prepared by staff, current residents, and a former Dawn House resident who all pitched in.

Today, we're introducing you to someone who has been part of the Dawn House story for 14 years. ❤️

Our Executive Director, Maggie McLaren, has watched Dawn House grow, change and expand while continuing to learn from the women we support along the way.

But what brought her to Dawn House in the first place? What has she learned from the women who have walked through our doors? And what does she think people misunderstand most about women's homelessness?
