This Invisible Disabilities Week, we’re proud to highlight the Sunflower Program, an internationally recognized initiative that helps people with non-visible disabilities access support and services. Earlier this year, we implemented the program at the Region.

Sunflower lanyards, pins and bracelets are available to anyone who may need them at the Region of Waterloo International Airport, Region of Waterloo Museums & Archives, Region of Waterloo Library and customer service desks at Regional facilities. Wearing the sunflower symbol is a voluntary way to let others know you have a non-visible disability and might need additional support, understanding or assistance.

These resources are part of our ongoing commitment to building a more accessible and inclusive community where everyone feels welcome and supported. Learn more about the Sunflower Program: https://hdsunflower.com/

Heads up ! Construction continues on Arthur Street in , with temporary road closures for road resurfacing and paving.

Please plan ahead for these closures:
📅 October 31-November 1: The Arthur Street and Church Street intersection will be fully closed. Arthur Street will remain open between South Street and Church Street, but traffic will not be able to pass through the intersection.

📅 November 2-13: Arthur Street will be closed between South Street and Church Street while crews resurface the road, adjust utility covers and complete paving. Access to off-street parking will be maintained via Church Street and local side streets.

Detours will be in place. Please follow the posted signs and plan ahead. Local businesses will remain open!

These improvements also include drainage upgrades, boulevard reconstruction, new streetlights and street trees. Some work may continue beyond November 13, with tree planting potentially delayed until 2027, depending on weather conditions.

Follow along as we’ll share updates as work progresses.
