Neighbouring Labrador City is Wabush, a smaller town with a population of approximately 1,861 as of 2011. Together, the "twin towns" are known as Labrador West. Labrador City is the preferred location for companies providing quality service to developments throughout the Canadian Northeast and we are the gateway to a wealth of opportunity and adventure. A vibrant community with exceptional recreational programming and facilities, majestic scenery, hunting, fishing and snowmobile adventures are just some of the many attractions awaiting the young and the young at heart. For our valued tourists, residents, and growing number of businesses, Labrador City holds tremendous promise today and well in to the future. We invite you to share in our prosperity and our warm, vibrant community lifestyle! The Labrador City town motto is Kamistiatusset, a Naskapi word meaning "land of the hard-working people." The Labrador City town crest is that of a snowy owl holding a scroll atop a black spade on a mound of red earth. The spade is flanked by two caribou. Both snowy owls and caribou are native to the Labrador City area.

“The opportunities before Labrador are significant, but so are the challenges that accompany rapid development. No municipality can address every issue alone. By working together and speaking with one voice where our interests align, we can more effectively advocate for the investments and policy decisions needed to support residents, businesses, and sustainable growth across Labrador.” - Mayor Jordan Brown, Labrador City

Labrador Municipalities Unite to Form Labrador Municipal Partnership
MNL supports the communities of Labrador in this new partnership initiative

The Towns of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador City, and Wabush are proud to announce the formation of the Labrador Municipal Partnership (LMP), a new collaborative forum dedicated to advancing shared regional priorities and strengthening municipal cooperation across Labrador.

The partnership has been established through a Memorandum of Understanding approved by the three municipalities and will provide a platform for collaboration, information sharing, and collective advocacy on issues that impact communities throughout Labrador.

The creation of the LMP reflects a longstanding tradition of regional cooperation. For many years, the Combined Councils of Labrador played a significant role in bringing municipalities together to advance common interests and advocate for the needs of Labrador residents. While that organization no longer exists, municipal leaders recognized the importance of re-establishing a forum where communities can work together to address regional challenges and opportunities.

The LMP will focus on areas of shared interest including economic development, transportation and infrastructure, housing, power and energy capacity, waste management, healthcare, and social well-being.

The partnership does not replace or diminish the authority of any municipal council. Each municipality retains full autonomy over its decisions, priorities, and advocacy efforts.

Rather, the LMP provides a voluntary framework through which municipalities can collaborate on matters of common regional concern while maintaining their independence.

The LMP is open to all incorporated municipalities within Labrador, and the founding members look forward to working with other communities that may choose to participate in the future.Together, the municipalities of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador City, and Wabush are committed to strengthening regional cooperation and advancing a shared vision for a prosperous and sustainable Labrador.

“Labrador is entering a period of tremendous opportunity and growth, with major industrial developments occurring today and the potential for significant projects in the future. We know that the economic and social impacts of these developments extend beyond individual municipal boundaries. The Labrador Municipal Partnership provides a way for municipalities to come together, identify common priorities, and ensure our communities have a strong and coordinated voice on issues that matter.” - Mayor Bert Pomeroy, Happy Valley-Goose Bay

“This partnership is built on the understanding that what affects one Labrador municipality often affects us all. Through stronger communication and collaboration, we can share knowledge, support one another, and ensure that Labrador communities are well-positioned to respond to both current and future opportunities. The Labrador Municipal Partnership is an investment in the long-term strength and resilience of our region.” - Mayor Gertie Canning, Wabush.

🎃 Lights, Frights & Halloween Nights! 👻

Labrador City went all out for spooky season this year! From eerie displays to frightfully creative decorations, there were plenty of homes that caught our eye.

Each year, we recognize some of the community’s most hauntingly spectacular Halloween displays, and these are our selections for 2026!

Congratulations to this year’s winners, and thank you to everyone who helped make Labrador City a little spookier this Halloween! 🎃👻

Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services advises the public that effective Wednesday, November 4, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. masking is temporarily required in all clinical areas in hospitals and health-care facilities, including long-term care facilities for the safety of all clients, patients and residents. Masking requirements in clinical areas apply to visitors/support persons, clients, patients (outpatient clinics and emergency departments) and health-care workers.

As health-care facilities report a rise in respiratory illnesses, these updated masking requirements are put in place to help reduce the spread of infection. NL Health Services will continue to monitor respiratory illness cases, hospitalizations and outbreaks and masking guidelines will be re-evaluated by March 31, 2027.

🚒 Congratulations to our local firefighters!

Over the past year, firefighters from Labrador City Fire Department, Wabush Fire Department, IOC ERT and Pro-Tec Fire Services at the Wabush Airport have put in countless hours of training and preparation.

Some have been working toward their NFPA 1001 Level I certification, while others have been completing Level II. This past weekend, all those hours of hard work came together as they completed their training.

It takes a lot of time and commitment to reach this point, and we want to congratulate everyone involved on a job well done.

Thank you for continuing to train, learn and build the skills that help keep our communities safe. Well done! 👏🚒
