Emergencies can be a pain in the neck. 🧛

The best antidote is an emergency plan, which will help you and the people you live with know what to do, where to go, and how to stay connected when the unexpected happens.

Make your plan using our interactive Emergency Ready plan or fill-in-the-blanks home emergency plan. Think about the things you need every day and consider what you would do if you didn't have them.

🤔🤔Think because it is cooler outside the build of leaves 🍂🍃and moss on your roof and in your gutters will be ok???
Think again, we are still in for some nice weather ☀️and more now then ever, residents are allowed to have fires.🔥 Embers can still travel from a small fire and ignite the dry dead leaves in your gutters, roof and on the surface. Be proactive and remove that fuel!

Building a grab-and-go bag doesn't have to be scary. 🎃

After Halloween, consider setting aside some unopened candy. It's lightweight, non-perishable, and can provide a quick energy boost during an emergency.

But don’t stop there!

Include essentials like water, food, medications, important documents, battery banks, and personal items for every household member.

Please join us in congratulating four of our members on completing Live Fire I training last weekend!

Junior Firefighters Kenley Knott and Falyne Smith, along with Probationary Firefighters Dominic Bellagente and Shane Abercrombie, spent two intensive days training at the Otter Point Burn Building. Working in a live-fire environment, they learned and practiced the essential skills needed to become interior structural firefighters.

Thank your Otter Point and Justice Institute of British Columbia: JIBC for your incredible Techs and Instructors for guiding our members to a successful weekend.

The commitment required for this level of training is significant, and we are incredibly proud of their hard work, determination, and dedication to serving our community.

A special thank you to each of them and their families for the sacrifices made to support this important training.

👏 Congratulations and well done! 🚒🔥

Community Update 🚒🔥

Fire training doesn't always go exactly as planned, and that's okay. Last night we were scheduled to conduct our Draeger Live Car Fire training, but due to some unexpected technical issues with the prop, we had to pivot our training plan.

Instead, our Paid-On-Call members focused on ladder training and propane emergency shut-off operations. One of the great things about the fire service is that there is never a shortage of important skills to learn and maintain. We're fortunate to have access to a variety of training props that allow us to adapt and continue building the knowledge and abilities our members need to serve our community safely and effectively.

Our members are required to complete annual practical skills assessments that meet the standards established by the BC Office of the Fire Commissioner (OFC), WorkSafeBC, and NFPA. Ongoing training ensures our firefighters remain prepared for the wide range of emergencies they may encounter.

This weekend, four of our members will be attending Live Fire I training at Otter Point. They have worked hard preparing for this opportunity, and we know they will gain valuable hands-on experience while continuing to develop their firefighting skills.

Strong work by all our LCFD Paid-On-Call members for their dedication, flexibility, and commitment to training. Your community appreciates the time and effort you invest to be ready when called upon.

Stay safe, and good luck to our members heading to Otter Point this weekend! 🚒💪

🍳🔥 COOKING? STAY IN THE KITCHEN.

Many home fires begin when cooking is left unattended. A few simple habits can help keep your kitchen—and your family—safe:

👀 Stay with your cooking.
🧯 Keep a lid nearby in case of a small pan fire.
🔥 Keep anything that can burn away from the stovetop.
🧤 Keep loose clothing and towels away from burners.
🚫 Never throw water on a grease fire.

If a small cooking fire starts, turn off the heat if it is safe to do so and carefully cover the pan with a lid.

If the fire is growing or you are unsure what to do, get everyone outside and call 911.

Stay in the kitchen. Stay safe.
