Region of Queens Municipality Information regarding municipal services and programs in the Region of Queens Municipality. We are fortunate to be living in the Region of Queens!

As the southern gateway to the UNESCO Southwest Nova Biosphere, we enjoy an exceptional quality of life. Enviable access to health care, a strong academic research and development community and a thriving and diverse arts and culture scene makes Queens a fantastic place to live for people of all ages. With Council continually investing in the future of the community, the Municipality works hard to achieve its vision of a place where "communities respect the natural environment, possess strong character, enjoy access to a variety of recreational opportunities and continue to develop an economy that builds on the assets of the Region as a whole." Municipal Planning Strategy, 2009

Did you know that the province's Heating Assistance Rebate Program opened for applications on October 1? If you are eligible, you can save on your winter home heating bills!

The Heating Assistance Rebate Program (HARP) provides rebates to tens of thousands of low-income Nova Scotians to help offset their winter heating costs.

The HARP rebate amount is $400. To qualify, applicants must directly pay for their home heating costs and meet the income thresholds: single-person households with a 2025 net income of $30,000 or less and households of two or more people with a combined 2025 net income of $45,000 or less can qualify (for net income, HARP considers Line 23600 on tax returns).

Applicants who receive the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) from Service Canada or receive Income Assistance from the Department of Opportunities and Social Development can also qualify.

For more information on HARP, visit : https://www.novascotia.ca/apply-heating-assistance-rebate-heating-assistance-rebate-program

Nova Scotia's Accessibility Directorate is looking for Nova Scotians with disabilities who are interested in reviewing and providing input on future projects (like resources, workshops, and other projects about accessibility or intended for the public). You can become involved now! They are creating a list of people to contact when a project needs to be reviewed. In signing up, you may be invited to review many, a few, or no projects. If invited to review a project, and you say no, this will not affect your eligibility to be invited to provide input on future projects. Those who review projects will be offered honoraria for each project that they provide input.

If you are interested, please go to the Accessibility Directorate's website for more information: https://accessible.novascotia.ca/first-voice-roster?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Breaking-Barriers-Newsletter&utm_source=Envoke-SYSTEM_ALL_CONTACTS&utm_term=Breaking-Barriers-September-2026
