Resume Do's and Don'ts

✔️ Keep your resume clear and to the point
✔️ Proofread your resume multiple times (especially with a second set of eyes)
✔️ Tailor your resume to each job you are applying for instead of sending the same resume to each job
✔️ Showcase your best skills and accomplishments
✔️ Use quantifiable numbers when you're able - have you supervised a specific number of people or hit a specific target sales increase?
✔️ Langage is important! Remember that the intitial person reviewing your resume may not be your future boss and may not be familiar with your particular field - use simple language and persusive action words such as "managed, developed, supervised, and supported
✔️ Volunteer experience is still excellent experience! Don't disclude it from your resume!
✔️ Ensure your contact information is accurate - you don't want to miss out being contacted if you are a potential candidate!

❌ Do not use your old highschool email address - ensure you have a professional email address on your resume
❌ Remove personal details such as age, marital status, religious preferences, or political views to mitigate any bias in the candidacy selection process. In particular, never include your social insurance number
❌ Do not include a photo of yourself on your resume to ensure the focus is on your skills and experiences
❌ Write your resume in third person
❌ Highlight your achievements under each job title rather than your job responsibilities
❌ References should only be provided to the employer when asked, so leave these out of your resume
