On May 1, Brescia University College is closing its doors and being taken over by Western University, and contract faculty (2/3rds of the faculty) face unemployment. It's a sad example of the precarity contract faculty face: those not responsible for Brescia's problems pay the price. The Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA) is proposing an 11.75% annual increase to
Ontario post-secondary education provincial funding over the next 5 years. The funding is necessary so that what happened at Brescia won't happen elsewhere.
