In a competitive job market, your resume has exactly one job: to get you an interview. But when hiring managers are sorting through hundreds of applications, small oversights can pull you out of the running before your skills even get noticed.
If you are polishing your resume this week, make sure you aren't falling into these 5 common traps:
🚩 Missing Contact Info: You’d be surprised how often people forget to include a phone number or a clean email address. If a recruiter can’t reach you easily, they will move on.
🚩 TMI (Too Much Personal Info): Keep the focus purely on your professional story. Details like your age, marital status, or a headshot are unnecessary and can create compliance issues for employers.
🚩 Over-Reliance on AI: ChatGPT is a great tool for brainstorming, but if your resume reads like a robot wrote it—or uses generic, robotic buzzwords—it loses your unique voice.
🚩 Typos & Grammar Errors: Your resume is a reflection of your attention to detail. A quick proofread (or running it through a free tool) can save you from a major first-impression blunder.
🚩 The "High School" Email Name: It’s time to retire the funny or casual email handles from years ago. Keep it professional with a simple firstname.lastname@ email account.
Job hunting right now takes strategy. If you need help perfecting your resume, Pathways can offer you support, like resume writing, 100% free.

Pathways was in the community to attend the Leading Women, Leading Girls Awards at Boler Mountain. Susan Abdula, our Newcomer Employment Service Coordinator, attended and was a past recipient (in 2017). This awards presentation was hosted by MPP Peggy Sattler, London West.
The Leading Women, Leading Girls Awards recognize women and girls who demonstrate exceptional leadership, champion equality, break down barriers, and improve the lives of others in their local communities. It was inspiring to see such support among the community in recognizing the ongoing hard work, collaboration, and positive impact that was represented by all participants.

Interviews can be tough. Being prepared is key to helping you feel confident and ready for anything. But there are some mistakes you could make and not even realize you are doing it... until it is too late. Here are 5 strange interview mistakes that happen, and how to avoid them!
Tips to help you avoid those weird moments:
• Silence your phone and leave it in your bag. Unless it's a life-or-death emergency, the person in the room deserves 100% of your focus.
• Comfort is great, but interviews are a "first impression" game. Aim for "Business Casual"—it shows you respect the opportunity (and yourself!).
• Confidence is key, but you don't need to prove your strength! Aim for a firm, professional grip and a friendly smile.
• It’s okay to take a breath before you speak! A 3-second pause to filter your thoughts is much better than blurting out something you'll regret.
• You don't have to be a cheerleader, but let your personality peak through! A little enthusiasm and a few nods go a long way in showing you're a human "culture fit."
