Jeanne Martinson: "I was delighted to meet MP and Secretary of State (Nature) Nathalie Provost in Regina yesterday. She was here in SK to announce a $24.5 million investment in Saskatchewan to plant five million trees - of which 3.5 million of the trees will be planted to help regenerate boreal forests affected by wildfires. For those of you who may remember that terrible day, Nathalie Provost is one of the survivors of the December 6, 1989 École Polytechnique massacre in Montreal. She was studying engineering at the time and was shot four times—in the forehead, both legs, and a foot—by the gunman who targeted female students. She notably tried to dissuade the attacker before surviving by playing dead with other classmates."

(She went on to complete her degree and a further Masters degree in her field.)
