District of Mackenzie Mackenzie is a community of 4000 and lies at the southern end of Williston Lake, the largest man-made reservoir in British Columbia.

Mackenzie is a recreational hub with natural and man-made trail systems in place that contribute to the region’s outdoor recreation tourism sector. Aside from the astounding recreational opportunities, Mackenzie's location provides strategic access to a resource planning area larger than Vancouver Island (6,130,604 hectares). Excellent air, ground, rail and marine transportation links are the methods of access to forestry operations, mining and energy. Currently, Mackenzie is home to several large industrial facilities including a major sawmills, power facility, data centre, and two area mines. Mackenzie is a modern community working to diversify its forest based economy and expand into viable secondary industries. For new business prospects, the District boasts low land costs, and low tax rates. Further, businesses may qualify for business incentives available from Northern Development Initiative Trust that have supported multi-million dollar investments in Mackenzie in the past number of years.

WORKFORCE RETENTION AND RETRAINING PROGRAM – RETRAINING GRANT
Canadian employers may be eligible for support through the Workforce Retention and Retraining Program – Retraining Grant, a federal funding program that helps businesses retain and retrain employees during periods of reduced work. The program combines Work-Sharing with training opportunities, allowing employees to continue earning income while developing new skills.

Eligible employers with an approved Work-Sharing agreement may receive funding to help maintain employee income during training periods, as well as up to $1,000 per eligible participant to support training and administrative costs.

Applications are being accepted from February 16, 2026, to December 31, 2027, and funding amounts vary based on the number of participating employees, the duration of the agreement, and the reduction in work hours.

Businesses interested in learning more about eligibility requirements and the application process can visit the Government of Canada website.

🎃🎆 Halloween in Mackenzie comes with a little extra sparkle 🎃🎆

After the last candy is collected, the community gathers for an annual tradition that's been lighting up Halloween for years: the Halloween Fireworks Show!

When: Saturday, October 31
Time: 7:00 pm

If you're new to town, don't miss out on one of Mackenzie's favourite Halloween traditions. If you've been here a while, you already know the drill: finish trick-or-treating and gather for an unforgettable grand finale under the night sky!

For the front-row experience, head to the Recreation Centre parking lot and join the crowd. Prefer to stay cozy? Many residents enjoy the show from neighbourhood streets, backyards, decks and even from their living-room windows. No matter where you watch from, Mackenzie's Halloween fireworks are a spectacular way to wrap up an evening of costumes, candy, and community spirit.

This year's Halloween Fireworks Show is going to shine even brighter thanks to a generous donation from the family of Richard "Ewok" Korosec.

Known throughout the community as "Ewok" Richard was a familiar face and friend to many. In his memory, his family has helped make this year's display even more spectacular with additional fireworks for the community to enjoy.

We are grateful for their generosity and honoured to recognize Ewok as we gather to celebrate.

🎉ADOPTED🎉
Meet Reese!

Reese is a lovely little female Chihuahua of unknown age who is looking for a new home. Reese is just a temporary name, but we think it suits her.

She's a sweet little girl with a big personality. She absolutely loves women and children, but she's not quite sure about men yet. She's slowly coming around, but she'll need someone who is patient and willing to work with her.

Reese also enjoys going for walks, sometimes without telling anyone she's leaving. She's a bit of an escape artist and has a habit of taking herself on little neighbourhood adventures.

We want to be upfront that Reese does need some work. She's a lovely little dog, but she has a few bad habits that her new family will need to help her with. She'll need a secure yard, some patience, and someone willing to spend the time helping her build trust and learn some boundaries.

We're looking for someone who understands that adopting a dog isn't always perfect. Reese has a lot of love to give, but she needs someone willing to put in the effort to help her become the best little dog she can be.

She's small, she's cute, she's got a bit of an attitude, and she clearly thinks she can walk herself.

If you think Reese would be a good fit for your family, please contact the District of Mackenzie Animal Control at 250-997-3881.

Let's find this little girl a home she won't feel the need to escape from!

BUSINESS WALKS ARE COMING UP!

The District of Mackenzie will be conducting our annual Business Walks on Monday, November 2, 2026. This is a valuable opportunity for us to connect with local businesses, hear about your successes and challenges, and learn how we can better support the business community.

We Want to Hear From You!

After consultation with the District's Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee and review of the Mackenzie Age-Friendly Accessibility and Inclusion Action Plan, the District set-out in 2026 to make several accessibility improvements at First Beach on Morfee Lake. This project aimed to provide improved access to the beach and water through the installation of Mobi-Mats and improvements to the washrooms.

Project Scope Change:

Following the initial installation of the Mobi-Mats, it became clear that the natural slope and sandy shoreline created accessibility challenges that prevented the mats from safely extending to the water while meeting accessibility standards.

After consulting with accessibility organizations and the District's Access & Inclusion Advisory Committee, the project was redesigned to focus on improvements that could be safely and effectively implemented within the site conditions and project budget.

We encourage you to provide feedback on the primary components of the project, including the Mobi-Mat, accessible picnic areas, parking lot improvements, and accessible pathways.

While these improvements represent an important first step, the District remains committed to the long-term goal of improving access closer to the water. The next phase of work will involve exploring options through a comprehensive landscaping and site design process.

Thank you for helping us create a more accessible and inclusive community!

Visit our LetsChatMackenzie website for further project information and to access the community survey.
