Tiny Fire Tips 🔥

November 1 to 7 is Carbon Monoxide (CO) Awareness Week. CO is known as “The Silent Killer” because it’s an invisible, tasteless, odourless, gas that can be deadly.

CO is produced when fuels such as propane, natural gas, heating oil or wood, do not burn completely in fuel burning appliances and devices such as:
• Stoves and BBQs
• Furnaces and Hot Water Heaters
• Gas and Wood Burning Fireplaces
• Generators
• Vehicles
• Portable Heaters

As of January 1, 2026, the Ontario Fire Code mandates all residential occupancies (homes, apartments) with fuel burning appliances, fireplaces, attached garages to install CO alarms adjacent to all sleeping areas and on every floor.

The Township of Tiny is continuing to work with the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) and the Farlain Lake Association regarding a spill at the north end of Farlain Lake.

In partnership with the MECP, containment and cleanup activities continue. A source and cause for the spill have still not been identified and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Township will continue to provide support for the MECP to find the root cause and take appropriate action.

Reminder:
For any residents that draw their drinking water directly from the lake, as a precaution, it is recommended to refrain from using the water while the investigation remains underway. The Township’s drinking water fill station at 39 Balm Beach Road can provide a free alternative for affected residents during this time.

The Township will share more information as it becomes available.
