I am very pleased to announce the very first Coat Bank in West Perth, organized by West Perth Gardens, opening this Saturday at 1pm in the retail space at the front of Scottβs Greenhouses!
Jodie Bennewies has been helping me get this opportunity set up, and she and her whole family have my very deepest thanks.
Scottβs Greenhouses have been a part of summer life around here for years. With the greenhouses going up for sale, Iβm especially grateful that they get to be part of one more community project.
We will be running the Coat Bank for about a month, and weβll be posting the available times as we go. Weβre also arranging some snacks, and I have a bag of knitted stuffy animals from Karen Gaffney for the kiddos!
To get a bit personal, Iβve been through the winters when you can get good coats for your kids, but not for yourself too.
That sucks.
It makes playing outside with them that much harder in the winter, not to mention getting to work or just getting through January.
Maybe you donβt have to go through that this year. Maybe we have a coat in your size.
Lord knows something like this would have saved me some cold winters, and I hope we can help some of our fellow parents and neighbours. Weβre in this together.
This is a first for West Perth Gardens, and a first for West Perth too. We do our best to serve our community, and when we see a need that we might be able to help with, I think itβs worth doing something about it.
A lot of you know Iβve been involved in organizing community efforts around here for decades. Itβs something Iβve always believed in, and something Iβll keep doing, regardless of any election.
Because at the end of the day, weβre neighbours. We look out for each other, and we do what we can to help.
So stop by this Saturday afternoon! Whether youβre looking for a coat or just want to come say hello, weβd be happy to see you.
Peace,
AF
