(EL) ΔΩΡΕΑ ΑΡΧΕΙΩΝ ΤΟΥ ΔΗΜΗΤΡΗ ΜΑΝΩΛΑΚΟΥ ΣΤΗΝ ΒΙΒΛΙΟΘΗΚΗ -- Ο πολύ γνωστός συμβολαιογράφος, πρόεδρος της Ελληνικής Κοινότητας Μοντρεάλ (1971-1975) και δημοτικός σύμβουλος (1978-1982), Δημήτρης Μανωλάκος, έφυγε από την ζωή στις 25 Σεπτεμβρίου 2024 σε ηλικία 89 ετών. Η οικογένειά του αποφάσισε να δωρίσει προσωπικά του αρχεία στην Βιβλιοθήκη μας. Έχουμε ήδη παραλάβει τέσσερα κουτιά και αναμένονται και άλλα. Εκφράζουμε τις θερμές μας ευχαριστίες στην οικογένεια του εκλιπόντος καθώς και στους φίλους του για αυτήν την ευγενική χειρονομία. (FR) DON D'ARCHIVES DE DΕMΕTRIUS MANOLAKOS À LA BIBLIOTHÈQUE -- Le très connu notaire, président de la Communauté Hellénique de Montréal (1971- 1975) et conseiller municipale (1978-1982), Demetrius (Jimmy) Manolakos, nous a quittés le 25 septembre 2024, à l'âge de 89 ans. Sa famille a décidé de faire don de ses archives personnelles à notre Bibliothèque. Nous avons déjà reçu quatre boîtes et d'autres sont attendues. Nous exprimons nos chaleureux remerciements à la famille du défunt ainsi qu'à ses amis pour ce geste généreux. (EN) DONATION OF ARCHIVES OF DEMETRIUS MANOLAKOS TO THE LIBRARY -- The well-known notary, president of the Hellenic Community of Montreal (1971-1975) and city councillor (1978-1982), Demetrius (Jimmy) Manolakos, passed away on September 25, 2024, at the age of 89. His family has decided to donate his personal archives to our Library. We have already received four boxes, and more are expected. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the family of the deceased and his friends for this generous gesture. La Bibliothèque hellénique de Montréal participe à cet événement afin de présenter les travaux de réorganisation et de vendre des livres grecs excédentaires de sa collection. Η Βιβλιοθήκη ευχαριστεί θερμά τον Σύλλογο Κρητών και εύχεται η χειρονομία αυτή να βρει μιμητές και άλλους ελληνικούς εθνικοτοπικούς συλλόγους. (EL) Η ΚΑΤΑΣΤΡΟΦΗ ΤΗΣ ΕΚΚΛΗΣΙΑΣ ΤΗΣ ΑΓΙΑΣ ΤΡΙΑΔΑΣ ΠΡΙΝ ΑΠΟ 40 ΧΡΟΝΙΑ -- Πριν από 40 χρόνια ακριβώς, στις 16 Ιανουαρίου 1986, καταστράφηκε από πυρκαγιά η ελληνορθόδοξη εκκλησία της Αγίας Τριάδας που βρίσκονταν επί της οδού Σέρμπρουκ, κοντά στην λεωφόρο Σαιν Λωράν, εκεί που ήταν και η πρώτη ελληνική γειτονιά του Μοντρεάλ. Σύμφωνα με αφηγήσεις παλαιών συμπαροίκων, στο υπόγειο της Αγίας Τριάδας ξεκίνησε η προσπάθεια για την δημιουργία της Ελληνικής Βιβλιοθήκης την δεκαετία του 1950, από νέους Έλληνες μετανάστες που αντάλλαζαν μεταξύ τους βιβλία. (FR) LA DESTRUCTION DE L'ÉGLISE DE LA SAINTE TRINITÉ IL Y A 40 ANS -- Il y a exactement 40 ans, le 16 janvier 1986, l'église grecque-orthodoxe de la Sainte-Trinité, située sur la rue Sherbrooke, près du boul. Saint-Laurent, là où se trouvait également le premier quartier grec de Montréal, a été détruite par un incendie. Selon les récits d'anciens compatriotes, c'est dans le sous-sol de la Sainte-Trinité qu'a commencé, dans les années 1950, l'initiative de créer la Bibliothèque hellénique, menée par de jeunes immigrants grecs qui échangeaient entre eux des livres. (EN) THE DESTRUCTION OF THE CHURCH OF HOLY TRINITY 40 YEARS AGO -- Exactly 40 years ago, on January 16, 1986, the Greek Orthodox church of the Holy Trinity, located on Sherbrooke Street near Saint Laurence Blvd., where the first Greek neighbourhood of Montreal was also situated, was destroyed by fire. According to accounts of old-generation compatriots, it was in the basement of the Holy Trinity that the effort to establish the Hellenic Library began in the 1950s, led by young Greek immigrants who exchanged books among themselves.
